20.01.2022 As BMSB (Stink Bug) hits in the coming weeks, we will start receiving quarantine directions for containers to undergo a 4.7 fumigation in all states. What is a 4.7? A 4.7 fumigation is a specific direction received during BMSB season for the purpose of rectifying issues preventing a standard treatment at container level. The issues that require rectification are due to impervious materials (wrapping) and or insufficient free air space preventing circulation of gases or correc...t placement of monitoring lines. Why do 4.7 containers take longer to turn around than a standard fumigation? 4.7 treatment requires the unpack of the subject container in a controlled and secured environment. Arrow do this by unpacking freight by hand from the import container into a second Arrow container at site spreading the freight in order for the gas to permeate the goods. Each 4.7 is placed on ground and a Quarantine approved covering is placed across the two containers to form a seal enabling the freight to be spread between the two containers. 08.01.2022 Methyl Bromide is labelled a lazy gas & as a result must be heated prior to gasing a container. When your containers are being fumigated for BMSB this season, ensure your provider is heating your gas so it does not sink straight to the floor & your provider has a fan in the container to circulate the gas. Failing to follow strict guidelines may result in delays & importers paying for a service they have not received.
