14.01.2022 Interesting exhibition at TAP GALLERY of work by Martin Walsh, Janet Venn-Brown and Sandy Parfitt who also charmed her audience with a poetry reading (Wordswo...rth and Banjo Patterson) in relation to her work at the opening on Monday. All three are Australian but Venn-Brown a painter of delicate interiors who is now in her nineties, lived in Italy for many years and well knew her late contemporaries there, Jeffrey Smart and Justin O'Brian, Martin combines his painting with traditional cut and paste collage and I first ran into his colourful popart imagery when he was living in London in the late sixties and early seventies in the company of Stephen Little and Colette St John. After an adventurous life, (I am always slightly amazed that he has survived and thrived) Martin has continued to work in prolificand enterprising fashion. For some years one could buy examples of his work in Ariel Bookshop. Several of his A3 folders are on display at TAP. and are well worth a look for the variety of the imagery which, like a good collagist, he has appropriated and got away with over the decades.
