23.01.2022 Further initiatives to get live events back up and running in the UK

19.01.2022 What is the role of art in regards to the issues that occupy the minds of our audiences? Does art mirror life, or is it the other way round? Should art ignore the concerns of our audience and sing its own chorus, or should art reflect the concerns of society? If art doesn’t reflect the concerns of society then how is art relevant? Does art even need to be relevant? Read more on the art4u blog https://art4u.com.au/2021/03/18/top-10-concerns/ #societyissues #whatisart #art4u

18.01.2022 This is the new normal. Getting all industries and businesses back to work, along with all employees back to work. Despite the hype, there is little evidence we will have universal access to a vaccine in the foreseeable future. Even when we do have universal access, there will be those that do not get vaccinated, or there will be another pandemic, therefore we will have to learn to live with the threat of a potential outbreak at any time. The onus should shift to the business operator to create a safe working environment and to the audience member to take responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing, along with that off others.

18.01.2022 Yaama Moogahlin Friends and Fam, We're writing to you with a special request: we're looking to grow our team and we need your help to get it out there. There are two jobs going - Digital Content Producer and Assistant/Associate Producer - both require folks who are highly motivated, passionate about our culture and performing arts, are organised, and are creative thinkers. Both roles are identified positions (meaning they are open to First Peoples applicants only) and are par...t-time, 12-month positions, with options to scale up in busy times and extend after the first year. Applications close 5pm Friday 4 September. There's more information about each role below, but in the meantime if you could please forward this email, share this link on social media, or humbug that one deadly person who you know would be perfect - we would really appreciate it! For those just getting to know us - Moogahlin Performing Arts is a leading NSW First Peoples performing arts company. We're a not for profit incorporated association based in Redfern, Sydney (Gadigal) as a resident company of Carriageworks. We were formed in November 2007 by a group of First Peoples artists, educators and community workers (Frederick Copperwaite, Lily Shearer, and Dr Liza-Mare Syron) at the request of the late Kevin Smith and in honour of the founding members of the National Black Theatre. Our vision is transformation through cultural arts. We develop, produce, and present new works that are by and for our communities and are committed to nurturing First Peoples arts practitioners locally, regionally, and nationally by building platforms for emerging and established artists. Moogahlin (Muu-gaarl-in) is a Yuin/Bundjalung word meaning to play, to fool about - and that's exactly what we aim to do day in/day out!

16.01.2022 Public Art is an essential part of a thriving community, it helps create an identity and delivers social, health and economic impacts. https://art4u.com.au///public-art-and-healthy-communities/

15.01.2022 Victoria is inching (slowly) closer to a point where life will begin to resume along with the remainder of Australia. Pressure is increasing upon State Premiers to open all State borders and arts organisations are all working towards the future in one form or another; where their management is looking over finances, artistic directors are planning events for the future, marketing is taking place and organisations are reaching out to their families of supporters. Artists, many still in limbo, are waiting anxiously for news of work and thousands of support people are looking forward to a return to full income. https://art4u.com.au/2020/08/07/six-months-to-a-new-future/

14.01.2022 Marketing Your Arts Organisation - The most effective marketing campaigns are targeted at a specific audience. Avoid trying to target to many different audiences with a single message. The key here is to gather data on groups within your family of supporters and then tailor your message. Successful marketing campaigns are often a mix of messages through different channels. Not all those in your target audience will be in the same place, therefore a mixture of digital, media, direct marketing and print is likely to increase the number of people you reach.

09.01.2022 For months, Met staff have wondered how their institution would reopen safely during a pandemic that seems to surge in closed spaces. But administrators have spent months consulting with health officials to find a path toward reopening that would lessen the risk of exposure for employees and visitors. And today, those safety measures were put to the test as audiences lined up for temperature readings and kept six feet apart. The new rules were evident inside the Met, where st...aff have installed an elaborate routing system designed to shuffle visitors from room to room without much crossover. Entrance into the Egyptian Wing, for example, brings attendees on a counterclockwise tour of the galleries. This makes for a more linear experience than usual, when meandering through different sections was a possibility. The pandemic measures also mean that more cramped spaces, like the iconic Temple of Dendur, are now off-limits to curious museum-goers. https://news.artnet.com//metropolitan-museum-of-art-reopen

09.01.2022 Those in the middle, where the 'brows' remain level can rejoice, it is so easy for them to confound the critics. Enjoy what you see and experience. Its nice but not necessary to be 'moved' or even to understand. It is essential to have fun and enjoy yourself. I also believe it is important to not maintain a narrow perspective, doing so shuts the doors on opportunities to enjoy life.

08.01.2022 Working with the media is an essential skill for arts managers. Effective media exposure keeps your family of supporters informed and helps to drive revenue. https://art4u.com.au/2020/09/17/working-with-the-media/

06.01.2022 When arts organisations plan their artistic program 3-5 years in advance they send a message to their supporters that they are creating exciting art, they enable their audience to plan to attend https://art4u.com.au/2020/10/01/plan-arts-program/

06.01.2022 An article in the Sydney Morning Herald in early February reported upon the intentions of the NSW State Government's call reduce public sector costs - read reduce staff numbers - as the State Government seeks to balance its budget in the wake of spending on Covid-19 measures. This is not entirely unexpected. I'm sure it will happen in each of the major States, in particular those that incurred significant additional costs.... https://art4u.com.au///call-to-reduce-public-sector-costs/

05.01.2022 How well does your arts organisation recognise the social and emotional impact of Covid upon corporate, non-artistic staff and volunteers?

04.01.2022 This is how it will be, but art is art and people will attend and enjoy because they enjoy being entertained, they want to be a part of the experience, it will require arts organisations to be creative to ensure they can cover operational costs but the alternative, being shut down and no acts at all is unthinkable - lets look out for each other while we enjoy ourselves. https://www.smh.com.au//we-re-on-cloud-nine-it-s-back-to-t #arts #organisations #art4u #theatre #postcovid19 #newnormal #sydney #nsw

03.01.2022 A great shout out to all those arts organisations who responded to our invite to participate in a survey on diversity in governance. We ripped out a survey on Survey Monkey and received great support from the sector with 10% of those invited responding - that is fantastic. Your feedback will influence the content of our planned seminars on Diversity in Governance of Arts Organisations planned for 2021. I know its a secret but were just waiting for that Covid fella to go on h...oliday! Hopefully we will meet many of you when we bring a seminar to your city. #diversity #governance #arts #organisations #2021
