25.01.2022 A special ceremony was held at Central Station yesterday to unveil the four honour boards made by the NSW Government Railways & Tramways to commemorate the 1,21...4 railwaymen who died serving their country during WWI. The honour boards, which were removed from the station in the 1950s, have been carefully restored by Transport Heritage NSW and reinstated in their original location by Sydney Trains for public viewing and ongoing commemoration. Biographies of each man were compiled by ARHS NSW Bookshop and can be found on the NSW Railways Remember website: www.nswrailwaysremember.com.au On behalf of Transport Heritage NSW, Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink, we’re pleased to return the WWI honour boards to the people of New South Wales. Lest we forget.

23.01.2022 When being in the dog house is a good thing. Emily keeping our newest team member Tully company while prepping a frame.

17.01.2022 Spot the difference. Actually theres two differences.

14.01.2022 Art & Archival wishes all our friends a happy new year. 2018 was a big year for us with lots of great projects and treatments. Here is a sample of the fun weve had at A&A in 2018.

14.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Peter Batey, OAM, founder of the Bald Archys. Vale Peter, thank you for bringing your brand of wit, fun, and freshness to portraiture. It was a pleasure to treat the Danish Royals for you.

12.01.2022 Our senior conservator Kim Morris loves treatment challenges big and small. This week it has been removal and stabilisation of fragile brittle labels from miniatures followed by treatment and reassembly.

09.01.2022 Art & Archival would like to congratulate the Fink team and Robert's family on his posthumous induction to the Design Institute of Australia Hall of Fame at the Powerhouse Museum last week. Robert Foster is very very missed.

07.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we at Art & Archival bid farewell to an unlikely national hero. Vale Chris the Sheep, our own world record holder for his largest and heaviest fleece. At approximately 42kg it is an object to behold. Art & Archival is honoured to have conserved and mounted Chris' fleece for display. Here are some images of the treatment and mounting project. See Chris' fleece at the National Museum of Australia.

06.01.2022 One of our larger projects at Art & Archival this year was the conservation and restoration of the NSW Government Railways and Tramways WW1 Honour Roles. These were originally displayed on the Grand Concourse at Central Railway Station in Sydney until the late 1950s and were placed in storage since. Art & Archival with our project partners Anton Buchi and Sons and Screenmakers worked over several months to conserve and restore original components and replicate those parts too damaged to return to display. They are now back in their original places on the Grand Concourse and look stunning. When you are next at Central take the time to have a look and reflect on the names listed there. It was a true honour for us to be involved in their treatment and return.

05.01.2022 Some during and after treatment shots of this precious little ceramic bowl. Smashed into many peices. Its come together beautifully. Kim put together the jigsaw puzzle and Mel harmonised the repairs.

05.01.2022 When you need specialist mounting and framing that falls outside most mainstream framing practices, look no further than Art & Archival. These lacquer prayer cards are double sided and cant be adhered or taped down. They also needed to float in the frame. Here is the result. Mounted in a fully reversible conservation standard technique in a recessed frame system. Nice work Em and Mel.

04.01.2022 Its not every day that you're part of an award winning project. We at Art & Archival are immensely proud to have been part of the project to conserve and restore the NSW Government Railways and Tramways WW1 Honour Roles. These were originally displayed on the Grand Concourse at Central Railway Station in Sydney until the late 1950s and were placed in storage since. Art & Archival with our project partners Anton Buchi and Sons and Screenmakers worked over several months to con...serve and restore original components and replicate those parts too damaged to return to display. They are now back in their original places on the Grand Concourse and look stunning. Recently this project was chosen as the winner, Conservation: Interiors & Objects at the 2019 NSW Government/National Trust Heritage Awards. Congratulations to all involved at Transport Heritage NSW and especially our restoration project partners, Anton Buchi and Sons and Screenmakers. More images can be found in an earlier post.
