25.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be At Artback NT we recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have occupied Australia and cared for Country for more than 65,000 years. We acknowledge that the first footprints on this continent belong to Australia’s First Nations peoples and that our nations story didn’t begin with European contact. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders belong to the oldest continuing culture on the planet and we recognise that their sovereignty... was never ceded. 17.01.2022 We are a group of Mothers, Aunties, Sisters and Grandmothers who live in Borroloola. We come from different clan groups: Yanyuwa, Marra, Garrwa and Gudanji. We came together to share story about what helps us grow strong kids and Community. We met during Covid-19 so we couldn’t go together on Country to yarn. We talked about our lives using the ‘Tree of Life’ to guide our story sharing. Each part of the tree represents something important to think about when tal...king about growing up our kids. They included our values, skills, knowledge, hopes, and dreams. We drew our own trees and wrote these stories down to remind ourselves of what helps us grow up strong kids. There are many storms that our Community and family face and we have knowledge and many skills to stand strong against these storms. 14.01.2022 ‘Lower the Bar’ peers into what we hold dear and what we let slip down the cracks of our sofa without bothering to vacuum for a month or two or four. Learning to pivot and reframe our standards and expectations during COVID-19 has had its challenges, such as participating in Passover Seder over FaceTime, Pilates classes over zoom and sex over Skype. There is a blind nature of stumbling through these experiences without an end date in sight.
