24.01.2022 For all you Instagrammers out there, Kelly Brumley Art is now on Instagram too! https://www.instagram.com/p/B_RCMGsAgQM/

24.01.2022 SOOOOO close to complete... just a little more detailing on the tree trunk and the koala's foot to go. I'm loving the early morning painting sessions (thanks Tori!)

23.01.2022 F is for FALCON!! (Such a hard choice. I was so torn between this doing this bird or fairy wrens... or a frogmouth... or... ) I'm taking a little break from my #weeklypainting and #alphabetchallenge to make the most of my time at home and finish off a few other paintings. Let's see, I currently have monkeys, a cat, a landscape and white daisies in oils on the go. In pastel, I'm working on another cow and a pair of whistling ducks. I've started a horse in graphite and I want t...o tackle a pen and wash self portrait. Plus I just treated myself to set of 120 Polychromos (coloured pencils) which I can't wait to try out!! . . #toomanyprojects #australianbirdart #brownfalcon #raptor #pastelpainting #pastelpencils #kellybrumleyart See more

23.01.2022 "The Artist" Pen and watercolour, 28 x 28cm The final portrait for my parents' portrait wall is complete. Naturally I left myself til last, not just because self-portraits are hard but also because I was having trouble finding good photos of me - I preferred being behind the camera! . .... #selfportrait #portraitpainting #watercolours #dippenandink #penandwash #artist #kellybrumleyart See more

23.01.2022 Eight very different people, eight very different portraits, one fantastic family portrait wall. (Mum's camera shy so that's why she doesn't feature as well!)

22.01.2022 "C is for Cockatoo" As you may have noticed, it's taken me two weeks to complete my #weeklypaintingchallenge. I'm not sure that next week's going to be any less busy with art classes starting up again but I think D's subject is a little less complex which will help. . . #alphabetchallenge #betterlatethannever #majormitchellscockatoo #pastelpainting #softpastels #pastelpencil #kellybrumleyart

21.01.2022 And the portrait it is. It's been a while since my last portrait commission so I'm feeling excited and nervous in equal amounts. So much pressure to capture an accurate likeness... even more so when it's your brother! #portraitpainting #wip #oilpainting #watermixableoils #kellybrumleyart

20.01.2022 A stage-by-stage record showing the creation of my pastel painting of a koala "Belle of the Bush"

20.01.2022 "A is for Apostlebird" Over the next 25 weeks I'm challenging myself to paint my way through an alphabet of Australian birds. The rules: One painting every week. All the same 20 x 20cm size. All in pastel. Using only my own reference photos. Do you think I can do it? Next week is B... #apostlebird #pastelpainting #birdsinart #australianbirdart #alphabetchallenge #weeklypaintingchallenge #kellybrumleyart

17.01.2022 The eyes have it! And the ears! Next up is the nose and *gulp* the mouth with *double gulp* lots of teeth... Commission, oil on canvas paper, 29.5 x 28cm #wip #portraitpainting #watermixableoils #eyes #ears #thatmouthlooksquitetricky #kellybrumleyart

17.01.2022 D is for Duck. A female Australian Wood Duck to be precise. I thought this painting would be nice and simple and QUICK but I hadn't considered how complex those water ripples would be!! Ah well, I still made the deadline and next week is sure to be easier. ... . . #waterripples #reflections #swimmingduck #australianwoodduck #australianbirdart #pastelpainting #alphabetchallenge #weeklypaintingchallenge #kellybrumleyart See more

13.01.2022 Started another cow as a demo for my Thursday morning class. Not a bad effort for 30 minutes painting. Loving the light and REALLY pushing those colours. . . #cowpainting #wip #pastel #light #colour #warmandcoolcolors #moo #kellybrumleyart

10.01.2022 I love it when I get to the stage of a portrait where a person looks back at me from the easel. Still a long way to go (that mouth with all those teeth! *gulp*) but the likeness is there. :) Odd question, but does anyone else find ears one of their fave things to paint? I do but I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because they're so three-dimensional...

09.01.2022 UPDATE: Monday's class is FULL and Thursday's is down to a single easel spot! Can't wait for term to start to get the art happening!! This coming term, I will be resuming teaching classes at Morwell Art & Framing. Whether you are picking up a pencil or brush for the first time and want to learn the basics or you've been painting your whole life and need assistance fine-tuning a particular technique, I'd love to help you on your artistic journey. You can choose to bring you...r own painting to work on or I can assign a project to develop your skill set. Class Dates & Times Mondays: 1:30pm3:30pm (July 13thSep 14th) Thursday: 9:30am11:30am (July 16thSep 18th) Cost: $250 per term (10 weeks @ $25 per lesson) or $30 per casual lesson (please text to confirm place availability before attending) Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will only be able to accommodate one person per table so class sizes will be limited to 6 students with the possibility of a further one or two students who wish to paint at a standing easel. Students will need to bring all their own art supplies as I will no longer be providing any class art materials until the pandemic is over. If you have any questions, or to book your place for the coming term, send me a message via Facebook or phone/text 0457 216 255.

09.01.2022 Painting time has been hard to come by these past two weeks - instead I've spent my days tiling a bathroom, writing letters, pulling a dead heifer from a dam, mowing lawns and trying to keep a toddler from breaking any bones (she's discovered she can climb ). In amongst all that, I managed to tackle the dreaded mouth. He's smiling. I'm smiling. Next up: hair. It really feels like I'm getting close to the finish line and that's inspiring. #portraitpainting #wip #watermixableoils #smile #almostthere #kellybrumleyart

09.01.2022 Here she is: "Belle of the Bush" Pastel 62 x 42cm When travel restrictions are lifted I'll take it to get scanned for prints. And ooooneday, when life is back to normal, it will do the art show round. Can't wait! In the meantime, check out the Painting in Progress album to see the entire painting process from start to finish.

09.01.2022 What do you do while you wait for the first coat of your portrait's hair to dry? You paint a cow, of course! This is "Madam Moo" inspired by Rita Kirkman's fabulously colourful cows. I've been wanting to try my hand at a cow in a similar style for ages and had also been asked to test out a new pastel surface. The result was a lot of fun and had Miss T mooing every time she saw my painting! For those who are interested, I've included a photo in the comments of the pastels I us...ed to create this painting. "Madam Moo" 25 x 25cm pastel FOR SALE

07.01.2022 Ever wonder what an artist does when they're not artisting? Today I pulled on my gumboots and donned my farmer hat to give Mark a hand sorting out soon-to-calve heifers and cows. I love cows - they make the best subjects for paintings AND the tastiest steaks! (Now you know which artist to talk to if you want a freezer full of yummy, grass-fed beef. ) . . #artistfarmer #farmlife #cowsmakemehappy #kellybrumleyart

07.01.2022 E is for EMU. Five down, twenty-one to go... Any guesses what bird I'll feature for F? . . #emu #blue #pastel #alphabetchallenge #australianbirdart #weeklypaintingchallenge #kellybrumleyart

05.01.2022 "B is for Boobook" Week 2 in the #alphabetchallenge and #weeklypaintingchallenge is complete! Choosing just one from all the great B birds - brolga, bowerbird, bee-eater, bronzewing, budgerigar, buzzards - was really hard but in the end that mesmerizing stare was too compelling. Next week: C. Another hard choice...... . . . #boobook #owl #eyes #softpastel #pastelpencil #pastelpainting #australianbirdart #kellybrumleyart See more
