25.01.2022 ... and if I could work out how to photograph and post my photograph of my phone I would join you for Day 5 .. my favourite tool #21daysinmyartworld .. My favourite tool at the moment must be my Samsung android phone! Progress or not, value checks, inspiration. My poor Nikkon D90 is languishing virtually ignored!

25.01.2022 .. and Brenna Schroeder.. best cherries award

24.01.2022 #jumpintoabstractpainting @tracyverdugo .. my cruciform got a little lost but I enjoyed this exercise. The composition appears to be ok in each of the orientations.

24.01.2022 Day 19 .. can I make it to Day 21? #21daysinmyartworld from the Archives... some 20 years ago dipped my toe into Chinese Brush Painting ... but quickly ran into 'life' issues and gave it up. Have not found a local teacher running ongoing classes since.

23.01.2022 Day 16 #21daysinmyartworld ... prompt .. smallest paintings .. in oils .. 6cms x 6 cms

23.01.2022 #21daysinmyartworld Prompt No 6 .. what is troubling me. Hmmm Staying comfortable when I do not have a clear direction. Some online courses and face to face workshops and terms of weekly lessons "help" but I still go into the "what on earth are you doing this for" mode.eg trying my hand at portraits when I am not even sure why!! I cannot claim that I paint because 'I must' as some artists report, and I have such a loud inner critic!! I could be volunteering my time and money to worthy causes. The inner conversations can be exhausting. I also get the guilts for being 'unsupportive' if I take a break from commenting on art online. And yet I plan to provide myself a studio this year in our garden gazebo! Oh dear I need a cuppa!!!

22.01.2022 Sunflowers in watercolour. 300gsm A3 which does not seem to fit the Instagram configuration very well.

22.01.2022 Completed a 7 Day series after some deviations from "the plan" but returned to the original theme of floral posie in a variety of media and styles. For #mycreativetouchstones and #becourageouslycreative .. I discovered I had more time than I thought and more patience and persistence than I had imagined .. and less concern about outcome .. although it did hover in the background!! Of course I wonder if any or none appeal and why?

22.01.2022 Celebrate .. #21daysinmyartworld .. the easiest prompt to respond to .. note the feet and the chaos and the "now look to the right" response to grandson Ryley who was taking the photo on my phone. Three generations unite at Christmas in my dungeon Studio. Challenge issued by me. Brenna, daughter from Darwin on left, set up a mini still life, and granddaughter, Ashleigh from Darwin, middle was declared the winner. I think she is still waiting for her prize. Beyond precious! (Note the "cleaning cart" that has served multiple grandchildren well. )

21.01.2022 A painting party at No 22's dungeon.. 3 generations. From left daughter Brenna, her daughter Ashleigh, from Northern Territory myself. Family gathering for Xmas. Should have thought of it earlier. Next time the paint off will be between daughter Shaylee, (now back in fore ridden Victoria) her daughter Leelou and myself. Still life was set by Brenna whose cherries were commended(r) and overall granted to Ashleigh's work on left. My claim was that I am elderly and frail and wanted to paint flowers but was outvoted. Some dummy spitting involved.

20.01.2022 Day 1 #21daysinmyartworld .. a favourite because I glazed in oils and persevered when I could not get the background to my satisfaction.

19.01.2022 #becourageouslycreative October challenge with @artiststrong with Carrie Brummer and #mycreativetouchstones 7 Day Challenge .. mini series .. Day 3 and a half .. with the equally lovely @taraleaver .. surely they can meet mid ocean one day and sort me out. Both wonderful and giving teachers with diffetent artistic styles .. and with patience. Semi stalled myself so instead of giving up I am cutting up old materials .. A3 on rubbish watercolour paper.. back ground experiments/techniques from an Adult Education night class .. must be pre 2016 but it was the germ of reinterest in art both then and now. Instead of forcing the florals I will play this week amongst my mini backgrounds and honour both Challenges in my own scattered way.

18.01.2022 A beginning ... from the back garden .. to be completed in two weeks with a Flauvist influence .. for Class with Splashout Studio .. Marino South Australia. Acryl8c ground but will work in oils. Now to choose the palette.

17.01.2022 #mycreativetouchstones .. which I forgot to post! 8x8 acryllic on paper .. but not the subject posie!!

17.01.2022 Sunflowers in watercolour. 300gsm A3 which does not seem to fit the Instagram configuration very well.

17.01.2022 #21daysinmyartworld Day 21 . Big Dream .. vague .. but to stay with the plan for a Studio and to acknowledge not only my husband Geoff Daniels for his support and patience with my artistic endeavours, but my family and friends who cheer me on inc Brenna Schroeder Ashleigh Schroeder Ryley Schroeder Shaylee Flook David McKenzie Heather Wadrop and Di Chaplin Hill and Ann W. While not the only online supporters, a special thankyou to Tara Leaver and her Creative Fire group. Brush onwards!!

14.01.2022 Ashleigh Schroeder declared overall winner of paint off challenge

14.01.2022 Thrilled with arrival of "Golden Girl Ruth" from Texas based artist @artiststrong Carrie Brummer. Exhibited as part of her recent Anonymous Women celebration in Canada. 6 x 6 Acrylic and 23k gold leaf on canvas. She is a glowing example of your work Carrie. Thankyou,; so worthwhile! I am sure she will fit In the Land Down Under.

13.01.2022 Acrylic. You may see the influence of Angas Wilson

13.01.2022 Day 11 Turning Point ... #21daysinmyartworld ..I do appreciate Tara's reference to 'art life' rather than 'career' for I see what I do artistically as part of my life rather than a career. During a bleak period in life, just pre midlife, I looked at a Brush Painting I had purchased, somewhat surprisingly, and wondered if I could paint (like my daughters.). I had enjoyed drawing pictures on the blackboard for my Grade 2 students early in my teaching career. Curiosity led to ...a Term of Workers Education classes. I dabbled, but as I look back you can see little changes in direction. I enjoyed an exploration into photography and still have a page somewhere on Red Bubble. A Pinterest post by #taraleaver of one of her free challenges led to me signing up for her on line classes. I particularly loved Artist Inspired as it gave me a structure and a chance to dip into the lives of artists. I've since undertaken other online courses and bravely attended local workshops and some lessons to try watercolour, dabble briefly with acrylic and then oils. Only one work, from a workshop, has been on public display apart from what I have posted online. So I have appreciated the support and generosity of the online art teachers and the fraternity of online creatives. Thankyou. (The work on the left was the initial purchase and the piece on the right is mine. Neither are dated but very old!) See more

11.01.2022 Is it Day 12 .. Motifs.. #21daysinmyartworld .. faces (very wip rather than portraits!) and flowers sprinkled, no scattered, with sundry odments.

10.01.2022 Reposting after a tidy up and reconfiguration. #mycreativetouchstones #BeCreativelyCourageous or is it #becourageouslycreative

09.01.2022 #21daysinmyartworld Day 21 .

08.01.2022 #21daysinmyartworld Prompt .. Inspiration.. I took my little phone for a walk through our home to reassure myself of my love of art .. and there it was on the walls, (except for Ashleigh Schroeder's girl who only exists on my phone). Works collected over many years as well as recently. Mainly originals, a limited edition Ainsley Roberts, and a couple of works of my own. With apologies and thanks for not listing all the artists. I have a couple in the wings from USA to be either hung or received. And to all those who post their work so generously for us to share and enjoy I send a huge shout out and thankyou for you too are inspirational.

08.01.2022 Day 2 #21daysinmyartworld ... what have I learned? Art crosses boundaries of age and backgrounds. Perfectionism is ego getting in the way of progress and not to be confused with persistence. Learning involves risk, skun knees and messiness and uncertainty and joy and perfect moments amongst the imperfections. It has only taken me 77 years to learn that. In gratitude to all those that share and those who encourage and foster. You know who you are! @taraleaver @artiststrong @donnadowney

07.01.2022 Day 3 #21daysinmyartworld wip Well maybe almost done .. No 1 in a series of faces with focus on values. Only partial success, and wondering if it is now best to leave this one and move on to No 2 before it gets any tighter ... which is not the aim! 8x8cms on canvas board in oils. Based on Morisot's 'Young Woman at the Ball' .. Likeness secondary to learning process .. just as well!

06.01.2022 #21daysinmyartworld Days 13 and 14 of @taraleaver challenge.. hmm this presented problems as I have yet to genuinely offer any work for sale. As for process.. lately I am working on faces in oil directly "sketching" with paintbrush, with references as guides. 6x6 or 8x8 inch on either canvas, canvas board or canvas paper using a red acrylic ground. At this point I rely (often) on the structure provided by reference materials, classes, workshops, and online guidance. Perhaps It will not always be the case .. but there it is. The framed flowers will be part of a gift to a dear girlfriend for her birthday so I submit this as a replacement for a sale! I am enjoying the work of others in this challenge even when I do not comment. @ Adelaide, South Australia

05.01.2022 Top of my Step Gallery .. which did not appear on my first post.

05.01.2022 Day 7 Favourite palette .. hmm a reflection of my scattered approach. But I do see I am drawn to greens, teals and a dash of alizarin crimson. Also love quin gold. But being an Aussie Rules supporter of Port Adelaide, my head happily chants "silver, teal and black and white" .. perhaps a tetch out of place in a 77 year old, relatively dignified, woman's head!!

04.01.2022 Day 9 #21daysinmyartworld ... where it happens and where it will happen.. eventually. The plan is to limit my time and the storage at my desk in our lounge, remove my art making from my Pilates Studio and create a studio in the gazebo which presently serves as a Poolroom/storage area. My hubby will get his own gardenstorage (to remove him out of the gazebo.) Ir will be airconditioned and hopefully flyproofed @taraleaver but I cant guarantee that there will not be visits to the roof by possums and koalas. And under present circumstances I believe I would applaud their visits.

04.01.2022 Day 5 Seven Day Challenge #mycreativetouchstones Moved on to over painting in pinks.. flow acrylics and gesso, charcoal and oil pastels.

03.01.2022 Lost which Day of the #21daysinmyartworld challenge we are on .. understandable when you are 77. Not quite a selfie ... can't make my arm long enough .. and to be honest still more comfortable in my ChiBall teacher skin rather than my 'I am an artist' skin. Great idea @taraleaver to include this prompt. So good to meet and greet each other!

03.01.2022 Day 19 .. can I make it to Day 21? #21daysinmyartworld from the Archives... some 20 years ago dipped my toe into Chinese Brush Painting ... but quickly ran into 'life' issues and gave it up. Have not found a local teacher running ongoing classes since.

03.01.2022 Day 17 #21daysinmyartworld Largest works 60 x 76cms .. both acrylic base then glazed in oils .. still life is a actually in portrait orientation and the Lily in landscape. Oops forgot to name them. @ Adelaide, South Australia

03.01.2022 #jumpintoabstractpainting @tracyverdugo .. my cruciform got a little lost but I enjoyed this exercise. The composition appears to be ok in each of the orientations.

02.01.2022 Acrylic in progress. To be glazed in oils

02.01.2022 #mycreativetouchstones Day 1 and 2 .. Second version. Same oral subject Series aporox 8x8 on multimedia paper using different mediums .. starting with pencil sketch.

02.01.2022 What to do during isolation .. exercises from online art classes. Working from my photo, an older tight watercolour version, a notan, a value study and now laying a ground.

01.01.2022 Day 4 of 7 day challenge #mycreativetouchstones .. repurposed A3 watercolour paper exercise into 5x5s (approx) by painting over very old grounds using all my green watercolours and white acrylic.
