23.01.2022 My super tricky to capture finished wall for Brisbane Street Art Festival and Ipswich Festivals this year! It's called 'Finding Light in the Shadow' and currently resides in its ever leafy home at Studio 188. It is a piece on the exploration of light and darkness (and how one can't exist without the other) reflective of the times we live in today. We often negate from the things that make us feel uncertain, discomfort or at risk but when we lean into our vulnerabilities, some...thing of light always comes out from the other side... in pockets of warm, fuzzy moments. This work exists as a reminder to be kind to oneself and each other - cause 'it's crazy out there!!' It was an honour to paint in the beautiful heritage city of Ipswich alongside the greats! Big love and a million thank yous to all the hardworking bees of Brisbane Street Art Festival and Ipswich Festivals that made the event and week the wonderful time it was :)

01.01.2022 I finally managed to get a photo of this wrap around mural before ducking off to the sunshine state! One side is called ‘Gathering of the Finches' and the other side is called 'A Budding Generation'. The story shows a flurry of finches, the endangered Black Throated Finch, the Gouldian finch and the Diamond Firetail finch that reside in abundance at their favourite watering hole. The scene is inspired by the idea of gathering (an extension of the first mural painted on the ot...her side of Granville East Public School) and what an ideal, prosperous and healthy environment and home could look like for these delicate little birdos. I wanted to paint a piece that celebrates a diversity of finch types symbolic of the diverse ethnic and cultural background of the kids at GEPS and also, to paint a figure that is much like children in their primary school years in its own way, impressionable, pure yet fragile and something to nurture. Among the questions at a workshop we hosted with kiddies from K-6, we asked what warms the heart? And if one could change the world, how would they change it? The parallel theme 'A Budding Generation' shows an imaginary world made up of a selection of subject matter that came from the workshop responses. The act of giving, the need to care for our natural world, hot air balloons, a fondness of sunsets, canoes and an appreciation for the land we live on were among the answers expressed :’) The bloom of the Waratah, Bluegum, Wattle and Banksia are also natives that represent the house colours of GEPS. Many thanks to Louise, Leigh and all of Granville East Public school for having me back!!
