14.01.2022 Very excited to have Hermannsburg watercolourist Mervyn Rubuntja in the gallery this morning. He's one of 6 Indigenous artists selected for the second iteration... of the "Badu Gili", an outdoor exhibition at the Sydney Opera House which premiered tonight. His painting will illuminate the sails of the Opera House every evening at sunset and 7pm for the next 12 months. Coinciding with the launch of "Badu Gili", we have a selection of small watercolours by the artist released todayincluding the work projected on the Opera House. Mervyn works with Iltja Ntjarra / Many Hands Art Centre - the home of the Namatjira artists in Alice Springs. One of his major paintings was part of our 2017 exhibition "Masterpieces from Iltja Ntjarra" which was subsequently shown in Chifley Tower for several months this year.
