17.01.2022 Here’s an example of when classical architecture is more sustainable... The Schofield Building in Cleveland, Ohio was originally built in 1902. In the 1960s, the building was then modernised with the ornamented terracotta architectural details covered with a steel facing. Then in 2016, the building’s owners spent $50m to restore the exterior to its original early 20th century appearance!... An absolutely extraordinary achievement when you look at the detail: whole balconies re-emerged, columns were returned right around the building (almost 50m above the ground) and numerous terracotta details were seen by many for the first time ever. The Schofield restoration is one of the latest in a series of restoration projects in Cleveland dating back to the mid-1980s including Playhouse Square, the Terminal Tower and several other buildings.
