24.01.2022 Delegates from all around the world will be arriving in Hervey Bay from this afternoon, to gather for the World Whale Conference 2019. Hervey Bay was selected d...ue to our ecological connection to cetaceans, in particular humpback whales. The theme for this years event is Journeys that Inspire Change, and its the first time the international cetacean scientific community has gathered in Australia for this event. From today until Saturday (October 7-12), attendees will take part in presentations, workshops, cultural and community events. The agenda for the week-long event includes: October 7 Official Welcome Reception. Held at the Hervey Bay Cultural Centre, delegates will gather for an intimate evening of welcome drinks and a special art-installation directed by internationally renowned artist, Art For Earth Jorge Pujol. World Whale Conference 2019 | Illumination Artwork Unveiling October 8-10 Official conference days. Each morning (except for Thursday) will commence with a formal address from Keynote Speakers, followed by presentations from delegates at the Beach House Hotel Hervey Bay. There will also be a special unveiling of an ocean-inspired, sustainable art piece (from 5:30pm, October 8), created by Sydney-based artists, Cave Urban. World Whale Conference 2019 | Community Arts Project Unveiling October 10 Community day. Delegates are invited to spend the morning onboard two of our fleets vessels for a whale watching cruise. Lunch will then follow at the Hervey Bay Boat Club, before an afternoon of presentations from local speakers to delegates. October 11 World Whale Heritage Awards. Presentations of the awards will take place, followed by the announcements of new world heritage sites (which may include Hervey Bay, a current contender for the worlds first Whale Heritage Site). October 12 ORRCA Marine Mammal Stranding Response Workshop. 18.01.2022 For the past week, our PR & Communications Officer, Nicky, along with internationally renowned artist Art For Earth Jorge Pujol have been busy out and about vis...iting several Fraser Coast state schools. Students from Kawungan State School, Sandy Straits State School, Torquay State School and Urangan Point State School, Block D have been helping Jorge get prepared for the Free Candle Illumination Artwork Project, by decorating paper bags that will be used in the installation ahead of the World Whale Conference 2019, October 8-11, 2019. Messages of hope, along with beautiful illustrations of whales and other marine life have been designed by the students ahead of the event. There is one more visit scheduled this Wednesday for Fraser Coast Anglican College. You can also get involved in this project by assisting in setting up these decorated paper bags containing candles from mid morning until late afternoon on Monday, October 7. Lunch will be provided on the day courtesy of Cake Bake Brew. Please email Nicky on [email protected] to get involved.

16.01.2022 During the last week of Term 3, we were fortunate enough to have internationally renowned artist Jorge Pulol (Art For Earth Jorge Pujol), join our Year 5 Art Cl...ass. Students were given the task to decorate paper bags to be used in a Whale Illuminated Artwork, which will be set up in front of the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery from mid morning until late afternoon on Monday 7th October. Candles will be placed in the bags and lit at sunset.
