23.01.2022 Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) is a condition where the body attacks its own blood vessels. This is known as an auto-immune disease. Around 1,000 Australians are diagnosed with GCA each year. 'Being low-impact, tai chi may be appropriate for older people and those who aren't able to take part in more strenuous workouts.... It can also be adapted for practise in a wheelchair or by those recovering from injuries. Aside from reducing stress and improving balance and coordination, studies have shown regular tai chi practice can result in a range of benefits, including: Reducing pain and stiffness and improving wellbeing for people with arthritis. Improving the physical and mental health of those with type 2 diabetes. Reducing the risk of falls and improving balance in older people. Physical distancing and hygiene measures will be implemented to comply with our COVID-19 safety plan checklist submitted to the NT Government. We are confident that all visitors to the office will cooperate in this regard. 08.01.2022 What is GLA:D Australia? It is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Check out the short video link! Research from the GLA:D program in Australia shows an average pain reduction of 36%, reduced analgesic consumption, reduction in perceived need for surgery, and clinically meaningful improvement in joint confidence. 01.01.2022 Arthritis Australia, in partnership with the Australian Rheumatology Association, has launched a new online rheumatoid arthritis patient-support website. The free MyRA website provides individually tailored information designed to help people seize control and become active participants in their journey with the disease. Our organisation worked collaboratively with Arthritis Australia to help design and test the MyRA patient-support website, which involved valuable input from across the sector - including an AONT member, said Joan Crombie, President of AONT.
