25.01.2022 A two storey new house was under construction at Wynnum. The soil condition was so bad. More than 2 meters thick uncontrolled backfill overlaying soft mud tended to extremely weathered rock which was some 3 meters underground. The building was in the flood zone, and the ground floor was 1 meter above ground. Screw piles applied to this project. Reinforced concrete footing beams supported by these piles were to pick up all the steel posts under the ground timber floor, then the upper floor, and the tiled roof on top.

07.01.2022 Rear part of the multi-storey unit development are now almost finished. Timber roof trusses are now installed. The construction work of the front part commenced. The huge reinforced concrete pad footings were in position. All the concrete columns now stand up. Block work is now ready to support the first level suspended slab.

02.01.2022 Investigation against the cracking failure at ABC building, South Brisbane If you go to South Bank, Brisbane, you will know that the Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC) building is next to the sky wheel. If you watch carefully, you will then notice the sign of cracks on this concrete wall of some 3 meters long at one corner of the ABC building. It is a pretty new building constructed in 2011. But now this wall is in a poor condition. Someone noticed the cracks and reporte...d to the council, and i was then engaged by ABC South Bank to investigate the cause for the cracking failure and the best method to rectify it. After two weeks investigation, i formed a belief that the insufficient reinforcement in the concrete wall was the major cause for the cracking failure. Therefore, I came up with the solution of thickening this wall and providing extra reinforcement on both sides in my ten-pages report. See more
