22.01.2022 Congratulations to Kengo Kuma & Associates for winning the first prize for the new Gallery of Angers Cathedral in France. They designed a contemporary gallery to protect the western portal of Angers Cathedral, where precious polychromatic sculptures from medieval (12th century) and modern (17th century) periods were recently discovered. They are using the finest stone processes possible which then frees itself from the thick walls of the cathedral built in stereotomy, creating this harmony between the new and the old. 19.01.2022 Gary Carsley's exhibition, ARBOUR ARDOUR explores "the artist's engagement with the garden as a trans-cultural, temporally fluid stage where theory becomes practice". Positioned within a multi-perspective pergola elaborated by Architect Renjie Teoh around 3 KEA PAX closets, a suite of geometrically shaped Draguerreotypes is positioned by the artists as a series of outward looking windows and doors. ARBOUR ARDOUR is on display at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery in Sydney till 28th November. #contemporaryart #australianart #garycarsley #renjieteoh #sydney

11.01.2022 To celebrate the NAIDOC week, I'm sharing this beautiful music clip of Christine Anu with Zaachariaha Fielding, NGAIRE and Emma Donovan. I first heard Christine sing as a young dancer in between Bangarra's dance performance at Sydney Town Hall in 1993. Recognising her talent, I made my first story and music clip with Christine for SBS TV's music show, nomad. My story was quickly bought by Qantas and was shown on international flights from Europe while NHK's international sate...llite channel in Tokyo made a story about me directing a story about Christine which was broadcast in Japan and all around the world. This is a special tribute to the original owner of this song, the Warumpi Band in Papunya where I went to have a teaching practice as a student teacher and witnessed a huge gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people with their access to health and education. The lack of recognition that this land belonged to and always will belong to First Nations peoples caused so much racism, mistreatment and pain. The NAIDOC week is about "seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history and for all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet" with mutual respect.
