22.01.2022 Last week we learned of Griffith University’s proposal to close a number of creative studios and courses at the Qld College of Art, amongst them the Jewellery and Small Object program. So many of artisan's makers, designers, and craftspeople have built and developed their practice with the help of the J&SO studio at QCA. The J&SO program provides an essential and unique creative hub for makers in Queensland, providing students with a network of globally successful alumni an...d practitioners and a dedicated space to practice their craft. artisan has a particularly close relationship with the J&SO staff, students and alumni and we stand by this community in articulating their value. Like the J&SO program, the Printmaking and Photography studios are essential creative incubators for practicing artists in Queensland and beyond. These programs and studios encourage students to evolve and expand practices in innovative, enriching ways. artisan strongly stands by studio-based learning at QCA and we are extremely concerned by what Brisbane's art community will look like without these key QCA programs and studios.
