16.01.2022 SUNSHINE COAST ART PRIZE You choose the winner!! The 14th annual Sunshine Coast Art Prize opened to the public on Thursday this week. Once again it gives the... public a chance to see a selection of the best ‘contemporary’ art that Australia has to offer. The word ‘contemporary’ is all important in viewing this exhibition. Contemporary can mean ‘not traditional’ or ‘as now’, which refers to when the artwork was produced and not to any specific style. It is best to view this exhibition with an open mind and be prepared to intellectualise with the artists and their thoughts about their creations. Judging will take place on August 29 so you have plenty of time to view prior and have the opportunity to make your ‘people’s choice’ selection. Click through here to view the finalists for 2019: https://gallery.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au//S/Finalists-2019 And the link below will take you to the flipbook catalogue for the exhibition... #sunshinecoastartprize #sunshinecoastartgallerytrail #caloundraartgallery #caloundraregionalartgallery #contemporaryart #artprizes

15.01.2022 Extremely sad that through the irresponsible actions of local young people this entire situation that has created chaos for so many, forcing evacuations of a large number of residents, scrambling of emergency services with huge efforts and sacrifice to protect lives and property, disruption to businesses, and the catastrophic loss of wildlife and habitat could have been avoided!
15.01.2022 **This warning is no longer current. Please refer to the QFES Facebook page for updated information.** PREPARE TO LEAVE: Castaways Beach/Sunrise Beach/Sunshine ...Beach/Noosa Springs/Noosa Heads/Noosa Junction (part of the Peregian fire) bushfire as at 8.25pm Mon 9 Sept Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire in Peregian Springs/Peregian Beach/Peregian Breeze Estate and Marcus Beach and conditions are getting worse. You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, or intend to leave, you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly. Currently as at 8.25pm Monday 9 September, a fast-moving fire is travelling in an east, north-east direction from Emu Mountain Road towards Peregian Beach and Marcus Beach. It is expected to impact Peregian Beach and Marcus Beach. Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. People who wish to evacuate should travel north to Sunshine Beach or Noosa Heads, and then head west towards Eumundi. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe your property is under threat. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. If you have a bushfire survival plan, finalise it now so you are ready to follow it. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if you leave the area. Advise family and friends of your plan. Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by. Drive with caution in low visibility conditions. Contact your neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire. Pack important documents and essential items (e.g., passports, birth certificates, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing) in case you need to leave the area. Put on protective clothing (e.g., a long-sleeved cotton shirt, boots with thick soles). Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Bring pets inside; restrain them with a leash, a cage, or inside a secure room; and provide them with plenty of water. Take action to protect your livestock. Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins, and outdoor furniture away from your house. Fill containers such as your bath, sinks, and buckets with water so you have access to drinking water and firefighting water. Close windows and doors, sealing the gaps under doors and screens with wet towels to keep smoke out of the house. KEEP UP TO DATE BY: Following QFES on Facebook (@QldFireandRescueService) and Twitter (@QldFES) Staying tuned to your local radio station. Find your local ABC radio station at https://radio.abc.net.au/help/offline and your local commercial radio station at http://www.commercialradio.com.au/find-a-station/queensland; Visiting the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website at www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/map FURTHER INFORMATION: For bushfire preparation tips, visit the RFS website: www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/BushFire_Safety For information about road closures, call 13 19 40 or visit www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au The next update will be provided by 10.25pm or if the situation changes.

10.01.2022 Hey, fellow art-loving Aussies, we're making a difference! "(Domestic) art tourists are high value tourists they are more likely to stay longer and spend more... when travelling than domestic tourists overall." That's one of the findings from a new Australia Council for the Arts report titled "Domestic Arts Tourism - Connecting the Country", and it's a wonderful surprise to us. A whopping 13.4 million overnight trips within Australia by Australians in 2018 included visits to arts or arts activities. It seems we Aussies love our art when travelling. Well, that's actually no surprise to us! Great to have the research to prove it though. Photo: Ravensthorpe murals by Amok Island, which forms part of the PUBLIC Silo Trail, WA.
