24.01.2022 Delighted my painting @The Restoration of Venus II is a finalist in the inaugural Lethbridge Landscape Prize on show in the Lethbridge Gallery now. All thanks to theLethbridge Gallery as it sold before the opening night and received a commended from the esteemed artist Rick Everingham. A wonderful exhibition of high quality works to be included in. All thanks to the Lethbridge Gallery and staff for a beautifully installed exhibition and fantastic opening event. Artists Stat...ement Restoration of Venus II The twentieth century has not been kind to notions of beauty. N. Zangwill These paintings aim at retrieving an idea of beauty largely eclipsed in contemporary art. The permanent, irresistible power of the beautiful is expressed in them through the erotic force of the female nude, a traditional symbol of beauty under the aspect of Venus. The effect is amplified by deploying multiple figures and integrating them imaginatively into natural landscapes (specifically drawn from Springbrook, Queensland). This combination of nude and landscape invites exploration of the deep visual resonances between human and environmental forms, permitting us to contemplate the sensual and spiritual unity of beauty as such. In her approach to this task, the artist honours traditions that assert the importance of disciplining the imagination through close observation and faithful rendering.
21.01.2022 This multiple self portrait drawing (graphite on cartridge), compiled from drawings rediscovered in my plan chest when moving studios. I discovered over 65 self portrait drawings executed from life over 45 years. I was struck by the diversity of mood and look and had the idea of combining them in a composition creating a visual story of my life. I used some photographic reference for example the figure if me as a 2 year old and the two figures of me at work while a young woman at art college. This work was exhibited in New York in 2017 and I am at present working on a painting of this composition. Working title is The Owl of Minerva Flies at Dusk taken from the philosopher Hegel’s saying that we only understand our lives in hindsight ; i.e wisdom comes in retrospect.
21.01.2022 Working in self isolation in New Haven Connecticut. A little cramped in our kitchen in our small apartment here - but it’s not impeding my output.

13.01.2022 My latest portrait commission completed and delivered, and importantly very well received by the commissioner. The subject is Rona Bain and it was a delight to paint such an intelligent compassionate and acute lady. I went to where she lives in NSW to do the preparatory drawings. The painting was commissioned by her grandson who lives in Tokyo. She is clearly loved.

02.01.2022 My painting of Hervey Bay QLD is,to my delight included in the inaugural online Lethbridge Landscape Prize.
01.01.2022 The idea for this was conceived 4 years ago while on a 6 month sojourn in America with my husband teaching at Yale. Still quite a bit to do though I have been working on the painting on an off since 2017 - took it to America with me in 2020 and COVID gave me plenty of opportunities to work on it. Each head except the 3 figures of me - one as a child and the 2 of me painting in the foreground are worked from self portrait studies (drawings done from life) done over my career a...s an artist. As it happened there’s a head from 6 decades of my life. The largest head is the most recent and while I did a comprehensive study for it it is largely painted directly from life. Tentative title The Owl of Minerva Flies at Dusk From Plato meaning we only understand backwards - ie we don’t understand the day until the day is almost over. It seemed an appropriate title LOL. #Portraiture # oil painting # Brisbane artist #queensland artist # painting composition ##art #artist #artwork #arte #artoftheday #artistic #artsy #artofvisuals #artistsoninstagram #arts #artgallery #artists ##artlife #artlovers #artstagram #artista #artisan #artworks #artshow #artcollector #artforsale #artshub #artlover #Artstudio See more
