"The effect of recent fires on Australia’s native wildlife has been nothing short of devastating. It is difficult to see the images emerging these past few days without feeling truly helpless. I had NO idea that most animal deaths in bushfires are not from flames, but because they aren't protected from smoke and heat. Speech Pathologist Christina Hunger in the US taught her clever dog Stella to use buttons for different English words, now to the point that they can have a short turn-taking conversation.
