24.01.2022 Happy Mehregan Persian Thanks giving Mehregan is one of the two most ancient Iranian festival. The word Mehr in Mehregan in Persian language means kindnes...s. Mehr represents knowledge, love, light and friendship. Mehr day is mentioned as the day when first male and female namely Mashi and Mashian were created. The bond between men and women is the root of creation of the world which is with love, friendship and happiness. This was originally a pre-Zoroastrian and old Aryan feast consecrated to the sun god. This celebration is parallel to change of the season from summer to autumn which is in October in Iran. In these days farmers had taken their harvest and they could pray god for it and relax. That is the reason it is called persian thanks giving. In Mehregan the families gather some signs and symbols of the revival of the nature and use colour cloths with some flowers on and celebrate with sweets, rose water, food and frankincense scent. The happiness is shared with special dances and giving gifts to each other. In the evening bonfires are lit and prayers are recited for receiving divine blessing.
