25.01.2022 If you’ve ever wondered what the Gallery Technical Art School looked like back in the late 1800’s, this could be a great reflection! In 1907 the Gallery Technical Art School amalgamated with the Ballarat School of Mines, creating a single art school. HH Smith, a former student and Director of the Technical Art School assumed the position of Principal of the combined entity. Although Smith did not leave a large body of work behind, this watercolour, created while she was teac...hing at the art school, provides a valuable record of art classes and students. What a dreamy vision of a by-gone time! This work, among many others, is on display at the Art Gallery of Ballarat for the Federation University 150th Anniversary Trail exhibition. The FedUni Arts Academy has had a close relationship with the Gallery as two leading Ballarat visual art institutions, and the Gallery holds in its collection works of both #FedUni teachers and alumni. The exhibition will be running until mid-February. Be sure to stop by and celebrate 150 years of artistic expression! The award will assist Sam Dolan, an actor in his final year of studies, to create digital content as a response to how the performance industry is shifting in the current climate including sho...rt-form videos. Sarah Morrison, a professional performer on the world stage, will purchase new software to further develop her script-writing. Lizzie Tongway, a talented ceramicist (photos pictured below), will produce high quality platters and develop a range of garden décor thanks to her award, while Paige Duggan, a multi-talented artist and musician will focus on her hand-drawn Australian native plants, allowing her to upgrade the computer technology that is an integral part of her art practice. Congratulations to all and thank you to the Ballarat Arts Foundation for supporting artists in the region. http://ow.ly/vyBb50CihKT
