I ADMIRE YOU BECAUSE...... ... This artwork was created for The Mater Theaters Staff. It hangs in their lunch room. The Mater Theaters staff- are the doctors, nurses, managers, admin, cleaning staff who work in the Operating Theatres of the Mater Hospital. @annettegallogly wanted to create a piece for the space to bring a bit of joy and positive energy and asked if I would do a piece similar in concept to my Whisper exhibition. This is what we came up with... ‘Think of you’re favourite colleague and finish the sentence - I Admire You because.....’ So - this is an artwork created in response to answers to that question. Many many of the sentiments are legible. @shannon_obryan thanks for allowing me to paint for your staff. Hoping this artwork brings many moments of joy and uplift as well as a subtle reminder to sink in and see the greatness in oneself... because if you admire something in someone else chances are it’s in you too. Tims 300 year old iron bark shield ‘Walk with good intent’, 2020, 133cm x 50cm in all of its glory...carved from the stump of a iron bark tree that fell down on his neighbours property in the central coast a few months ago when they had some big storms come through. All of Tims work in this exhibition are made from this one tree...and so all of the pieces are connected to each other like family, coming from the same source, the same mother- as we do. Indigenous and non indigenous alike. The shields and the photographs intertwine as they share the space of this exhibition; they overlap in them and materiality; they share spirit.
