25.01.2022 Where does one draw the line between art and craft? This is an example of Balinese craft done so beautifully that in my eye it becomes an art object. Tali Bali (Bali string) The string is hand spun from coconut fibre and then wound onto a bamboo cross. I have had this for years. I think that this craft may be extinct, driven away by machine-made string.

15.01.2022 This old Singaraja style sitting Dewl has settled into our garden. With all the rain we have been having she has become mossy and an ivy has grown around her to make a skirt. Ht 44cms catalogue S07-4 $850

12.01.2022 It is quite inspiring to observe Indonesian artists responding to Coronavirus with their art. "Lady Corona" shows herself in all her colorful beauty. Wayang kulit, created carved and painted by dalang Wayan Wija. Posted by Antonella De Santis who commented, "The Corona virus represented with wayang kulit by Wayan Wija. When I saw it first I complained because it's a woman character! But then he explained to me that he will use it in his performances as a wise character (shakti) that came to the world to teach humans about the meaning of many different aspects of life. How cool and beautiful is this positive vision!"

03.01.2022 Indonesian knife handles have more to then than just being something with which to hold a blade. This buffalo horn keris handle from Lombok has an erotic joke carved into it.

01.01.2022 In the Majapahit era, sculptors made small figurines that depict the people and lives of the time. We mostly find heads but in these two the head and body were found together and reunited. You can read more about Majapahit Terracotta on our website https://baliqueartsofindonesia.com//discovering-majapahit-
