22.01.2022 Arranger, band leader, and award-winning jazz vocalist Michelle Nicolle started her musical career when she began the violin at the age of eight in the Barossa Valley, South Australia in the 1970s. Based in Melbourne, she is now celebrated as Australia's finest jazz singer. Known for her ability to get right to the heart of a song, as well as being an in the moment improviser, Michelle has continually developed and nurtured her art form with the help of her quartet. Their original compositions rely heavily upon strong pulsating rhythms that draw on influences from Spanish, rock, hip-hop, Latin, and modern jazz music. 17.01.2022 TED VINING TRIO AT THE ANU GODS CAFE (2015) Now based in Hobart, veteran drummer TED VINING is an important figure in jazz circles for forming two long-running ensembles: the Ted Vining Trio (1970-2006) and Musiikki Oy (renamed as Blow in 2000). Recently turned 80, Vining's achievements were recognised with the Hall of Fame award at the 2017 Bell Australian Jazz Awards. He has had a wealth of experience both on and off the jazz stage. Pianist BOB SEDERGREEN is one of the grea...test performers of the blues this country has produced. He is blessed with a wonderful style of musical humour, too. After GARETH HILL studied violin from aged eight, a suggestion from his orchestra conductor prompted him to take up the double bass. Under the tutelage of two renowned bassists U.S ex-pat Eric Ajaye and Max McBride in Canberra Gareth pursued jazz, classical, and other styles in the capital’s thriving music scene. Ted Vining (drums) led a trio with Bob Sedergreen (piano) and Gareth Hill (bass) at the Gods in 2015. Miroslav Bukovsky (trumpet) sat in for the second set.
