25.01.2022 Introducing SPRING mentee and landscape artist Karina Buckingham. Art has been integral at every stage of Karinas life. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from Curtin University and since 2018 has committed her time fully to her professional arts practice. Passionate about oil paint, the trees, parks and coastline which make Perth so unique, Karina is devoted to memorising and documenting the places she walks in daily as a means of immortalising its visual beauty and the sens...e of well-being it evokes. In 2019, Karina was selected as a finalist in the Perth Royal Show Salon and exhibited in the Artsource Members "Now" exhibition. @karinabuckingham_artist and www.karinabuckingham.com SPRING Mentoring is an opportunity for WA artists to benefit from the experience and expertise of Curator, Sandra Murray, thanks to the support of @artsourcewa and @deptlgsc. - Images courtesy the artist 1. 23.01.2022 Today we release our 2021-22 Budget Submission. As we look to the next four-year term of government, serious underlying issues in the sector which have become m...ore urgent since COVID-19 must be addressed. The priorities we set out in this Budget Submission support both the COVID-19 recovery pathway and longer-term ambitions for the sector and our State. We are seeking a commitment from government to secure jobs opportunities for creative sector workers, create programs that allow all Western Australians to access the benefits of arts and culture, ongoing progress towards a long-term strategy that sees the cultural industries contribute towards a more diverse and resilient economy and ensures WA remains competitive into the future through skills development, innovation and cultural infrastructure that supports best practice. https://www.cacwa.org.au/documents/item/1086 David Templeman MLA Culture and the Arts, WA Mark McGowan ArtsHub

22.01.2022 JCG recognises that now more than ever we need to support our local creatives & through #support4WAartists we will highlight a different WA practitioner each we...ek! This week we feature @dangladdenart - Has the pandemic impacted your work? My exhibition "draw me after you, let us run" at STALA Contemporary opened and then had to close a few days later due to the shut downs. I was still lucky to have an opening night and make some sales but it was still a huge shock. I spent the lock down working from home in my day job and tried to keep drawing and experimented with gouache.. I became obsessed with Lisa Yuskavage though during that time which I'm eternally thankful for. Another positive was finding an online course through the National Art School I could do over zoom which I've just completed. - What are working on right now? Trying to build up my drawing skills more but also pushing and developing my understanding of colour and trying to resolve less. I'm working on a diptych for the Bunbury Biennale and hopefully get an exhibition for 2021 confirmed. - How can we support you? @dangladdenart dangladdenart.com Sales are always welcome and I would love to be considered for group exhibitions. 22.01.2022 Deep Surface is currently on exhibition at the @Courthouse Gallery+Studio, and runs until 19 September. In her own words, Susan Roux describes how she created ...her installation, titled {un}/fold/ed, for the exhibition. "I started the installation by walking around the building; trying to pick up an entry point through the architecture of the space. I find the architecture very dense and excessive. There is a lot of cladding and the building is very protected; there is no easy entry. I decided to represent the ridge of the roof in this work, {un}/fold/ed. The folds and pleats imitate the tight elements around the building. In {un}/fold/ed, a central fold is the transformative mask, split along the vertical axis of the ridge of the roof. This mask unfolds from the centre of the work. I wanted to bring attention to the space we are in, and how we too are unfolding, layering and revealing through the surface. This unfolding also reflects the concept of our time; the concealing and revealing of what is beneath, Deep Surface". {un}/fold/ed Canson paper, ink, polish, thread POA Courthouse Gallery+Studio, 16 Edgar St, Port Hedland.

13.01.2022 Leading WA husband and wife artists Peteris (Peter) Ciemitis and Jillian Ciemitis are calling for the community to adopt an outlook of calmness and reflection d...uring the pandemic. The exhibition uses the idea of a transect; a path over the landscape along which observations are made. Jillian and Peter have delved into several landscape points to pause and look around; an imaginary rock hewn landscape, a fog shrouded forest, or a sublime old city. In each place, the viewer is invited to take stock and absorb some of the details. Exhibition curator Karen Shirley said Transect is a thought provoking, collaborative response by two internationally acclaimed artists working in different media on how change affects our sense of place on any transect, whether it be urban or rural. ARTISTS FLOOR TALKS Saturday 5 September, 11.30am & 2.30pm The Gallery is open to visit Saturday & Sunday 10-4 10 Harris Rd, Caversham You can call 9388 3300 for more info Please email for full catalogue or visit www.lintonandkay.com.au to view exhibition See more
