18.01.2022 The Australian Physics magazine edition, which coincided with the heritage listing of the CSIRO’s Parkes Radio Telescope, used a section of a larger work of Parkes artist Sean James Cassidy. The work, Radio Telescope, is on permanent display on the Woolworths wall in the main street of Parkes. Sean’s digital art work is based on a poem by his aunt, Kerrie Peden also from Parkes. The work depicts the importance of the harvest as the radio telescope sits in farming land. Native... animals represent Goobang National Park to the east and hand prints signify the human spirit that has reached out and touched the moon. The featured work is one of three based on poems by Sean’s father and Kerrie that are on permanent display and were installed for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, in which the Parkes Radio Telescope played a vital role. The other two works are called Blood Moon and Millenia Wandering. Image: Sean in front of the permanent display of his artwork in the Parkes main street with a copy of the Australian Physics magazine featuring the same art work in its most recent edition. 06.01.2022 SCULPTURE DOWN THE LACHLAN Big news! Sculpture Down The Lachlan has received the funding needed to finish the sculpture trail by end 2022. The goanna sculpture has recently been installed. Two other large sculptures will be installed in the next few months.... Initial funding for the sculpture trail started with a sculpture prize, but due to insufficient entries in 2017 the competition for the $20,000 Acquisition Prize was deferred. In 2018 we used funds to help purchase the two bronze dogs sculptures by Brett Mon Garling that can be seen in the CBD. We were also able to purchased Eternity by Lachlan Ross because of funds made available by the extremely successful and popular foodie event. Another project was completed in the last year, down at the Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre. The cluster of indigenous sculptures nestled on the edge of Lake Forbes is an excellent start point to Sculpture down the Lachlan. The sculptures and an amphitheatre are adjacent to and form an extension of the Forbes Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre. The amphitheatre in itself is sculptural and has been created for educational purposes for young Australians. Wiradjuri Dreaming Sculpture. Visit www.wiradjuriculture.com.au These holidays, discover the larger-than-life permanent sculptures scattered throughout the Forbes Shire. 'Varanus', the 20 metre steel goanna (pictured), can be found just 4 kilometres from town.
