25.01.2022 In the midst of the Botanical Painting Art Therapy Workshop with Claire Ganzon and Steve McPherson. We have 3.5 registered art therapists to 6 workshop participants present which is an amazing therapist to client ratio thanks to bumping into our ex art therapy course mate Lyra @jivawellbeing at the Royal Botanic Gardens. I am manning our station on the grass while the group goes for a sketch walk around the gardens. #arttherapymelbourne #art #botanicalpainting #ndis

24.01.2022 The creative process highlights the uniqueness of the individual while uniting us together as we explore similar themes in the therapeutic outcomes. Here is an example of the same directive given to different clients of drawing a person picking an apple from a tree. This assessment can show the different developmental stages of where one is at in life, drawing out each persons strengths and challenges. #arttherapymelbourne #drawing #consentgiventopost #art

23.01.2022 Thank you to all who came for our Botanical Painting Art Therapy Workshop. Here are some of the art pieces from our participants. Thanks to Claire and Steve for facilitating such a beautiful workshop it was so good to meet everyone in person after months of zoom workshops. It is truly nothing like physically being together a a place of nature. As @jivawellbeing mentioned, we are not in nature, but we ARE nature. #arttherapymelbourne #arttherapyworkshop #nature #botanicalpainting @potskiri #consentgiventopost

22.01.2022 Throwback to the beaches of Goa where I completed my Yoga Teaching Training almost 10 years ago! Today I am still practicing but in a more mindful and gentle manner, embarking on a training to become a Yoga Therapist. Dont miss out on this months workshop: Vijnana Yoga and Creative Writing in collaboration with Antonia Pont on the 26th of September 2020, 2-5pm. We will be combining movement and breath while harnessing our creative energy with words and expression. PM for more details. #yoga #yogaworkshop #ndisworkshop

22.01.2022 Given the recent tragic events of xenophobia towards Asians around the world and America in particular, I found myself tongue tied not having the words to express how I feel about the situation. I do not feel the urge to share news, hashtag #stopasianhate or speak up for my own people. It is not because I feel disenchanted or disillusioned. I realized I can do the best for my community just be being the most authentic version of myself. That in itself is my own advocacy.

20.01.2022 While others are raving about the new Mulan, I have been learning and making my own meaning from the original Art of War by Sun Tzu. ... Suy, yòngbng de yuánzé shì: Búyào qù gngd zhànjù godì de dírén, búyào qù yíngjí bèi kàoshn qi de dírén, bùk gnzng zhugn jizhung bàituì de dírén, búyào qù jìngng jngruì de dí jn, búyào qù ch diào chngdng yòu'r de xio bùduì, bùyào qù èzh huí chè de dírén, bowéi dírén yào liú quku, dí jn y xiànrù juéjìng, bùk bpò tàishèn. Zhèxi du shì yòngbng de fzé. Therefore, the armys principles are: Do not attack the enemy who is uphill Do not try to attack the stresses of life when the situation is too overwhelming. Do not oppose the enemy when they are coming downhill When the stresses of life are coming downhill on you, try not to oppose it, try to sit with your feelings. Do not pursue or follow the enemy who has falsely retreated Sometimes we create a safety net, to protect us from harmful and hurtful situations while the risk is still there, this allows us to be in a safe space, it is important to tread lightly on this, not to overturn this space with too much force. Do not attack the enemy army who have had morale and talents When people around us are having high morale and successes in life, not to attack them for being on a high. The quote by Marianne Williamson states There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people wont feel insecure around you. It is important to note that even in our periods of insecurity, we have the power to shine, we will not always be the ones who are insecure, and we cannot tone down our greatness at the expense of others as others should not for us. Do not swallow the bait offered by the enemy, which is usually a small troupe Not to fall into the trap of others showing themselves to be smaller or lesser than they truly are. Do not interfere with retreating enemies, when surrounding the enemy, you must leave an outlet When surrounding the stresses that are opposing you, you must always leave an outlet and not apply too much pressure. The enemy that is desperate, cannot be pressured too much. These are the principles of the army It is important not to pressure your stresses in life too much.

20.01.2022 More lockdown weekend reading. Focusing by Eugene T. Gendlin. The living body is always going beyond what evolution, culture, and language have already built. 20.01.2022 Arts Therapy in Schools? IT WOULD'VE BEEN LIFE CHANGING FOR ME Debbie shares her own story to illuminate how Arts Therapy can help todays young people in ne...ed. Not sure what Arts Therapy is all about? Debbie explains from her own lived experience. She says, "As you're drawing you have light globe moments and get things put in to perspective". "I found it to be a great help to process a lot of things that I've gone through". Let's spread the word and get the decision makers on board to ACTivate Arts Therapy and expand Victoria's under resourced mental health work force by including "Professional Arts Therapists" in the definition of "Mental Health Practitioner" in Victoria's 2014 Mental Health Act. It's time. Help raise awareness of Arts Therapy by sharing. Thanks Debbie!

16.01.2022 Weekend Reading : BODYMIND by Ken Dychtwald Although unrestricted breathing dispels anxiety, the neurotic who suffers anxiety-states simply cannot follow the advice to exhale and inhale - that is, simply to breathe. That is precisely what they cannot do - namely, breathe - for unaware of what they are doing and therefore cannot u controllably, they maintain against their breathing system a system of motor tensions, such as tightening the diaphragm against tendencies to sob or express disgust, tightening the throat against tendencies to shriek, sticking out the chest to appear substantial, holding back the aggression of the shoulders and a number of other things Page 147 with he pronouns changed to be more inclusive for all genders. #reading #yoga #bodymind #yogainstructor #yogatherapy #arttherapymelbourne #breathing

15.01.2022 Thank you @ari.nah for the feedback and review: During Yoga Therapy with Su Mei, I was able to experience, observe, and nourish physical sensations that showed up in any particular moment, in a non-invasive manner. I first came to her with tension in physical and emotional parts of myself, alienating me from my own body and limiting my enjoyment of life. Each session enabled me to respect the nature of my body’s distinct process while uncovering things beyond my own consciou...s understanding and connecting with them. Su Mei led me through combinations of different sequences targeting all 7 chakras in the body, and verbally discussed ‘blocked’ sensations that I felt. Some of the stretches released these energy blocks and I naturally progressed into deep meditative states. In my last session, I drifted very easily into Savasana (Corpse Pose) for no less than half an hour, and I formed a deep appreciation for the art of relaxation being in this state. It was blissful and rich in feelings of interconnectedness. Entering this state without any struggle made me realise that I need to practice more physical relaxation, and that I am capable of enjoying life much more than I thought. These valuable sessions under Su Mei’s guidance, served as a reminder that being connected to myself in an embodied way is crucial to my resilience as a person in my own healing. #yogatherapy #review

15.01.2022 Good morning team! Here is a short article on Dayne Beams support for the campaign that you might like to share around. With articles like this it is best to c...opy the URL of the article, paste it into a new post, and then write your own personal introduction. UPDATES: yesterday morning we sent out press releases to a limited number of hand picked journalists who have recently reported on Victorias mental health issues. The release included quotes from Prof Pat McGorry, footballer Dayne Beams and lived experience advocate Debbie. We are very hopeful that the story will be picked up, and will keep you posted. The petition is super close to 4000 supporters! When we reach that target I will generate a list of signatures as well as a list of testimonials and send an update to The Hon Martin Foley that will also include the content of the press release. Have an awesome day everyone and keep communicating with your info, connections and ideas. We are in this together

12.01.2022 It has been years since I was able to focus and read a book from cover to cover. Social media and technology has got a lot to thank for that. Surprisingly during the lockdown I have managed to slow down and calm my mind in to reading during the weekends. It has been a self regulating and relaxing experience, not to mention mind opening and educational. #lockdownreading

11.01.2022 Some gems from 4 years ago as part of my Master in Art Therapy exploring the idea of particularity and difference in culture. Something that is part of the heart of my practice. Yesterday during my Master of Clinical Family Therapy, I presented my own family of origin, how my relations with my family has affected my practice as a therapist. It was a supportive and empowering experience to share with the supervision group about my family values and culture. #ethics #arttherapy #culture #difference #familytherapy

03.01.2022 Understanding the possible effects of the pandemic on ourselves. I think we maybe underestimate how severe the adversity is and that people may be experiencing a normal reaction to a pretty severe and ongoing, unfolding, cascading disaster, Masten says. Its important to recognize that its normal in a situation of great uncertainty and chronic stress to get exhausted and to feel ups and downs, to feel like youre depleted or experience periods of burnout.

03.01.2022 Art Therapy is about creating connection and meaning through art making rather than being pressured in to making objects of social stereotypical beauty. Looking at the world through the individual lens and for our clients to make interpretations for themselves. Here are art works, first picture by the client, second by the art therapist. Painted together in unison to create a language where verbal communication is limited. #arttherapymelbourne @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
