25.01.2022 Parenting in this age forces us to not only consider screen time for our children but also for ourselves ... quality time is being fully present and engaged.. not an easy task ... how can you put boundaries on your screen time to make the most of these precious moments?
25.01.2022 A big thank you to all of my clients and the team at Combined Wellness Solutions who helped make my birthday full of fun and laughter it was a wonderful day! Absolutely love working as an art therapist and grateful for all of my wonderful clients looking forward to opening up a few more days in the not so distant future and connecting with new clients who are interested in exploring this modality. Have a wonderful week
25.01.2022 One of the things boys need most from their parents for emotional health and growth is encouragement. The APA recently released research that found that men are... four times more likely to die of suicide worldwide than women. I don’t tell you this to scare you. I tell you this to highlight the need for focusing on men’s and boy’s emotional health as much as girls’ and women’s. I also tell you this to empower you. As your boy’s parent, you have everything you need to make sure he grows up to be a kind, emotionally healthy and self-confident adult. Boys need to be nurtured and cared for just as much as girls. Their future emotional wellbeing is at stake, and once they reach adulthood, there is little to guide them.
24.01.2022 When there is no cure yet to be found, no solution in sight, no help coming over the horizon, when there are no techniques, no teachings, no rulebooks to guide ...you, when the comforts of false hope and guarantees are gone, along with any promise that youll make it to the other side, when healing or transcendence or miracles have not come and the only way out is through the flames, the smoke, the rising water, the heartache, the despair, when there is nothing left to hold onto hold on. Although no one may applaud you or call you heroic or see what heart, what soul, what bravery it takes, although there are no books to read on "The Power of Hanging In There" and really no advice on how to do it (just that still small voice within) although you wont see it romanticized or spiritualized or as a goal on any vision board probably anywhere, although you may be filled with hopelessness and grief and fear, and only barely able to keep on, dont be fooled sometimes the souls most vital, most courageous, most sacred, and most difficult task is to just hold on. - Leyla Aylin @ www.leylaaylin.com from Midwives of the Soul Art by Christian Schloe
24.01.2022 Trauma 101. Some basics. Learn to ask what happened to you, vs. whats wrong with you? To remain curious, because this journey is never linear. Patterns wil...l be repeated, hurts will happen, f*ckups will arise, until new ways of living are not only learned but actually consolidated. And even then, major stressors will tend to push back upon these protections, AKA our adaptations - the many patterns and identities we created in order to survive. Learning to repair is the essential relational alchemy... and it takes time. Patience. Compassion. Support. Encouragement. Lovingkindness. To repeat: trauma healing is not linear. Ever.
24.01.2022 I see you taking your kid to therapy while your friends take their kids to football or ballet. I see you sneak out of the conversation when all your friends boa...st about achievements and exam notes. I see you juggle events and meetings. I see you sitting on the computer for hours investigating what your child needs. I see you make a bad face when people complain about what looks like nonsense. I see you disappear little by little but you keep going beyond for your family. I see you pull strength from weakness with a force you didnt even dream you had. I see you showing respect for teachers, therapists and medical professionals who help your child and help you. Watching you wake up early in the morning to do it all again after another chaotic night. I see you when youre on the edge of the precipice struggling to live. I know you feel invisible, like no one notices. But I want you to know that I see you. I see you push forward always. I see you choose to do everything you can to give your child the best care at home, school, therapy and the doctors. What you do matters. Its worth the struggle. On those days when you wonder if you can make it one more minute, I want you to know I see you. I want you to know that you are beautiful. I want you to know its worth it. I want you to know that you are not alone. I want you to know that love is the most important thing, and that you are the best at it. And in those days when you see an improvement, those moments when hard work has its reward, and you can taste success, Ill see you then too. And Im proud of you. Whatever day today... ...youre doing it right. And I see you. Alethea Mshar John Walker / Flickr

21.01.2022 I stole this from a post Kathy Taylor shared on her page today. This is a useful conceptualization of how we have to scaffold and build upon elements of trauma ...informed care to help others. For TF-EAP/TI-EAL, this doesn’t change because a horse enters the equation. In fact, it becomes even more important and necessary as we are responsible for doing much of this for our equine partners as well.
19.01.2022 The phoenix is such a powerful symbol...it speaks of a mythological creature rising from the flames/ashes. A metaphor for rising above the adversity one has endured but now transformed into something much more... an archetype that represents resilience, strength and wisdom.

18.01.2022 Once upon a time... we got hurt, we wrapped a layer around our heart Then, we opened our heart to try again and got hurt we covered it in another layer The nex...t time we weren’t sure we put on an extra layer just in case Then, we met a situation that left us cold we put on another layer We lost someone or something dear to us we put on another layer We believed others negative opinions about ourselves that built another 3 layers We created a negative narrative about ourselves our layers became protection Our layers then became a challenge to others if you want my heart? get through my layers We learnt to rely on our layers to use them as an excuse We learnt to depend on them To even love them. Once upon a time ... a beautiful thing happened We decided to love ourselves We decided to heal One layer at a time. 17.01.2022 There is growing awareness that challenging behaviour in children and young people can be a sign of anxiety but what about kids on the other side of the scale... who are model students - never get in trouble, always work hard, set high standards for themselves? Or maybe this resonates with you personally? High-functioning anxiety can be really difficult to wrap your head around - isnt anxiety supposed to prevent you from doing things?! How can an over-achiever have anxiety? I love this visual and accompanying blog post from Dominee at BlessingManifesting which speaks about what it is like to live with high-functioning anxiety. 02.01.2022 Crying is a vital part of keeping a childs emotional and nervous system in-check and regulated. The hard part for many parents is weathering the storm; crying ...is often very uncomfortable for parents because they can feel judged or out of control. Often the tears were not allowed in their own childhood, so hearing their childs tears triggers a deep hurt within them. As hard as it can be, make room for the tears. What comes up must eventually come down- and once it does you will have your little boy or little girl back for the better. As my 4 year son always says after a meltdown, I feel better now mommy.

01.01.2022 A familys black sheep are actually liberators of their family tree. Family members who dont adapt to family rules or traditions, those who constantly try to r...evolutionize beliefs. Those who choose roads contrary to the well-beaten paths of family lines, those who are criticized, judged and even rejected. These are called to free the family from repetitive patterns that frustrate entire generations. These so-called black sheep ", the ones that dont fit, the ones that howl with rebellion, actually repair, detox and create new thriving branches in their family tree. Countless unreal desires, broken dreams or frustrated talents of our ancestors manifest themselves through this revolt. For inertia, the family tree will do anything to maintain the neutral and toxic course of its trunk, which will make the rebels task difficult and conflicting. Stop doubting and take care of your rarity like the most precious flower in your tree ". You are the dream of all your ancestors. - Bert Hellinger : MERMAID by Malene Reynolds Laugesen http://malenerlaugesen.com/
