10.01.2022 Advancetown Lake/Hinze Dam Once the site of the township of Advancetown, the lake and dam now provide water for the Gold Coast. The Nerang River flows into the lake from the south and flows out over the spillway of the dam wall on the northern side. The dam was originally built in 1976 and in 2011 the dam wall was elevated. As a consequence of the elevated water level, many immersed trees died and now their dead tree trunks stand tall around the edges of the lake. The lake is a popoular place for fishing and kayaking with boat ramps on the east side and the west side. There are also mountain bike trails around the lake/dam.
