16.01.2022 This is a report from Gail Williams following a recent week spent at Preah Dak School, near Siem Reap. My cousin Celeste teaches at an international school in Singapore. She accompanied me for a fantastic week at the Preah Dak Primary School in Siem Reap Cambodia. The object of the exercise was to train our teacher, Mr Kosal, and, particularly, to show him that there are many different ways of learning....Continue reading

08.01.2022 ASAP has a new sports program. We have provided the kids with new equipment to use in the new Saturday sports Program

07.01.2022 Update on Preah Dak School: In December 2013, Lorraine and Frank Cahill spent three days at the school working with Kosal. Lorraine and Frank took with them a collection of photographs of the kids taken by Celeste and Gail during their recent visit. The kids framed and decorated the photographs of themselves and mounted them around the classroom. Amongst other contributions, Lorraine and Frank bought each of the kids a pair of thongs. Many thanks go to Lorraine and Frank for ...their time, energy and generous contributions to the program. Special thanks are extended to Julie and Maurice Loughlin for their recent incredibly generous contribution. Julie is especially active undertaking fund raising and collecting donations for distribution offshore, most recently into East Timor. Maurice and Julie have presented us with an amazing collection of goods for delivery to the school including tooth brushes, face washers, stationery, socks, school shirts, dresses and so much more. In addition, Julie's mother has also made a generous donation. Our thanks go to the Loughlin family for this fantastic contribution.

04.01.2022 Thank you to Drew ( Manager National Australia Bank Ivanhoe) for NAB's generous contribution to the ASAP Cambodia Project.

02.01.2022 ASAP in Cambodia ASAP is involved in a small project in Cambodia. Not surprisingly, perhaps, it is also known as ASAP, standing for Australia SiemReap Alliance Project. The ASAP project is funded by contributions from numerous ASAP colleagues. Current projects include:... Assisting a family in Siem Reap. This family consists of an aging grandmother and her three grandchildren, the parents of the children having died. Life is complicated by the grandmother being severely impaired visually and their house (perched precariously over the Tonle Sap waterway) having been short listed for demolition as part of a flood prevention redevelopment, the region having been severely flooded in 2010. Assistance to the family involves the provision of food for the whole family and schooling costs for the young girl. Providing a small business loan for a driver in Phnom Penh to upgrade his transport and business marketing material. The funding of English classes in the rural village of Preah Dak (noted as Pradak on Google maps), about 15 kilometres north of Siem Reap. The Principal has provided us with our own class room. Our contributions pay for the monthly salary of the teacher (Kosal) and have funded the setting up of the class room with pens, pencils, exercise books, whiteboard and multiple wall hangings. In addition, NAB Ivanhoe manager, Drew, has provided many kilos of pens, colouring pencils, footballs and beach balls. The kids at Preah Dak dont have many resources at their disposal. Accordingly, it was a real highlight for Gail and I, during a recent trip to the school, to see the delight of these kids when given some sporting equipment as well as their very own pen, pencil and work book. Many thanks, indeed, to Drew and his colleagues at the NAB. See more
