17.01.2022 If you’re planning to have a baby, you might be wondering what happens with work, leave and pay when your bundle of joy arrives. Under the Fair Work System, if ...you have a responsibility to care for the child you can take 12 months unpaid leave (as long as you’ve worked for your boss for 12 months). You can also ask for another 12 months off. In terms of paid leave, eligible employees can get up to 18 weeks' leave paid at the national minimum wage under Centrelink’s Parental Leave Pay. You might also get paid parental leave from your work, but there’s no blanket rule on this under the Fair Work system. You’ll need to check your enterprise agreement or company policy. Remember, your partner may be able to get 2 weeks Dad and Partner Pay from Centrelink too. https://www.fairwork.gov.au//maternity/paid-parental-leave

01.01.2022 Calling in sick because the kids are ? Carer’s leave can be used when an immediate family or household member requires care due to illness or injury (it co...mes out of the same balance as your sick leave). But your boss can still ask for evidence you were entitled to take the time - even if you’re just off work for one day. So what evidence is ok for carer’s leave? There are no strict rules, but it needs to be enough to ‘convince a reasonable person’ that you were entitled to the leave. Medical certificates and statutory declarations are examples of acceptable types of evidence. https://www.fairwork.gov.au//notice-and-medical-certificat

01.01.2022 Australia’s minimum pay rates are not negotiable. We recovered $331,386 in wages for 725 workers after conducting surprise audits in Albury-Wodonga, Ballarat a...nd Wollongong. Our inspectors targeted regions based on the high population of university students and large number of anonymous reports received from local workers. In total, 489 businesses were audited, including take-away food outlets, cafes and restaurants, retail businesses, pubs and bars. Nearly half of the businesses (47 per cent) audited across the regions were not compliant with Australian workplace laws. Over half (55 percent) of the total money recovered during the audits came from hospitality businesses, with 67 employers back-paying $181,557 to 573 employees. Improving workplace compliance in the fast food, restaurant and café sector is a priority for us. Employers in the fast food, restaurant and café sector need to actively check that they are paying their staff correctly. The free tools on our website can help. We encourage any workers with concerns about their pay to contact us. Read the full story: https://www.fairwork.gov.au//20190613-regional-education-c
