24.01.2022 ABILITY FOR VETS TO RETURN LOST ANIMALS For the past five years AVA have been lobbying the Victorian state government to change legislation within the Domestic Animals Act that prevents vets returning lost animals that are brought into their clinic. Fines for breaching this legislation can result in the vet being fined over $800. AVA obtained a commitment by both major parties before the 2018 election to amend this legislation and have been continually advocating to the Minis...ter for Agriculture to act on this commitment. Obviously the best outcome for the lost animal and its owner is that they can be reunited as soon as possible. A consultation is now open to hear views on this from vets and the general public. It would be appreciated if vets could share the consultation link with their clients via social media and online communications. AVA will be making a formal submission but we encourage vets and pet owners to complete the survey - https://engage.vic.gov.au/reuniting-lost-pets-review
