23.01.2022 ADRI recently held a Training Workshop on Asbestos-Related Diseases (ARD) in Fiji (2-3 Dec 2019). This video-clip shows one of the workshop’s highlight: in-depth training on the pathological diagnosis of mesothelioma. Note that mesothelioma is still a very difficult ARD to diagnose in many countries. The training uses a multi-header microscope so the trainer (expert pathologist) guides the trainees through example slides to make a differential diagnosis.
23.01.2022 The annual Meso March in May continued in spirit last weekend with folk taking time to reflect on the hard work of their loved one enduring extensive treatment to stay as well as possible, and others quietly remembering the loved one they have lost. Enjoy the photos of the Meso March activities of people last weekend. Thank you for the kind donations ADRI has received towards their work of discovering the unknown that surrounds the aggressive nature of mesothelioma. Any donation is most appreciated at any time, and more so right now as we all struggle with social, emotional and financial constraints during the Covid-19 crisis.
21.01.2022 In light of the recent bushfire crisis in Australia, our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the devastation to our country and to those who put their lives on the line day and night in the service of their community, the firefighters. One of the risks faced by all affected is when asbestos-containing materials are damaged or disturbed during bushfires which can bring about risks to the health of those exposed to fibres. Firefighters are at the highest risk ...and we hope that authorities are taking appropriate measures. Lessons should be learnt from the fact that many firefighters post-response 9/11 (NY) did incur asbestos exposure and early health effects are emerging (Lancet). Here is a helpful video produced by Asbestos Awareness Ambassador, Cherie Barber that provides useful information for all those affected by this national bushfire tragedy who may come into contact with asbestos that is damaged or disturbed during the bushfires. 12.01.2022 The day before his 21st Birthday, Lindsay Wall began his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner. He was exposed to asbestos fibres in his day-to-day work. Tragically, Lindsay passed away from mesothelioma on 8 November 2019. He was only 65 years-old. Lindsay wanted to share his story with other tradies in the hope that they would take the warnings seriously and avoid any exposure to asbestos fibres that can kill. Please share his story with your family, friends and tradie work... mates and together we can help save lives. For detailed information on how to protect yourself, your family and your mates, visit www.asbestosawareness.com.au where you can download many FREE resources specific to a wide range of trades and learn where asbestos might be located and how to stay safe when working on domestic, commercial or rural properties. 05.01.2022 Our annual 'Meso March in May" will not be taking place this year due to COVID-19. However, we still want to recognise the challenges of those who live with mes...othelioma and acknowledge those who care for or have lost a loved someone from this disease. With this in mind, we invite you to join us for a virtual walk. A walk of any distance in any place, be it your home, your garden or your community providing it meets the current COVID-19 safety restrictions. We invite you to share your walk with us by email or as a photo that reflects your activity. With your permission we will share this on our website within a message to raise awareness about the dangers of exposure to asbestos. Thank you in advance for your participation and if you would like to support research into asbestos-related diseases donate here http://adri.org.au/support-us/
