24.01.2022 This week we would like to introduce the multi-talented Rachel: "Im Rachel. Ive been with Ascent for nearly 3 years now. With a Masters in Occupational Therapy and a Bachelors degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences, I have always wanted to help others to live life to their fullest potential and happiness through empowering their independence and autonomy. Originally, I grew up in America but moved to Australia 6 years ago. Since moving to Australia, Ive mainly l...ived in Canberra, but I love visiting the coast regularly during the summer months! In my spare time, I enjoy music, movies, hiking, swimming, and spending time in the garden with my husband. I also adore my two cats, Cooper and Daisy. In the past few months, I have been spending most of my time outside of work rehearsing for a musical which has been incredibly fun and rewarding! Clinically, I enjoy working with patients with varied medical histories and backgrounds; but have special interest in neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, and neurological injuries. In the past 3 years with Ascent, I have researched and specialised in understanding the benefits of healthy routine and sleep hygiene and utilise this educating and working with my clients toward a holistic and sustainable recovery." Rachel's passion for supporting others is evident in the work she does not only with clients but her support to our team!
24.01.2022 We would like to introduce you to our newest staff member - Chantel! Chantel has joined the Administration team has quickly established herself as a positive and proactive member of the company! We asked Chantel to introduce herself: "Hi, my name is Chantel. I am a Canberra born and bread girl, and have always dreamed of moving to where the weather is warmer and the beaches are only a stones throw away. However, life had other plans for me. I am now a happy mum of two beauti...ful girls, who keep me well and truly busy. I wouldnt want life any other way! I have a love for all things beauty, and cant go past Italian food. I mean, who can go wrong with pasta? It makes my soul happy!" Chantel has brought a number of fantastic qualities to the team, including her astounding organisation skills, compliance and ever growing nature; seeking ways we can improve. Not only is Chantel a viable asset to Ascent, she has also brightened up the office with her quirky and fun loving sense of humour. Welcome to the team Chantel and thank you for diving in head first taking on Ascents values and goals.
24.01.2022 The next addition to the Ascent team is the wonderful Penny Tracey. As a child, Penny loved playing out doors; climbing trees, making cubby houses and swimming at the beach. She used to ride horses and once competed in a state competition for mounted games. Penny now hasn't ridden a horse for a long time, however, she loved reminiscing on the time she rode a camel at Uluru about four years ago! Penny graduated with a Bachelors of Social Work in March 2019. Prior to this, her... working background involved various fields of customer service, disability support work and suicide prevention. She has completed a number of social work placements within Mental Health fields of practice. Penny is passionate about building positive working relationships and helping people to reach their full potential. She is focused on applying her newly developed skills and knowledge to her practice here at Ascent Rehabilitation. Valuing empowerment, inclusion and diversity, Penny is motivated to ensure a person-centred approach to injury management. Penny has quickly established herself as a vital member of the Ascent team! Welcome Penny!!!

22.01.2022 Director Jonathan shares a message to our community about Ascent Rehabilitation's response to COVID-19. We are adapting to the changes as they come. Our team have been working hard to continue to provide their same great levels of support to our clients and community. We will utilise this time to innovate our practices and continue to provide best practice occupational rehabilitation and injury management. We are looking forward to continuing to develop and share resources with you over the coming weeks.
22.01.2022 ARPA National NSW President Derick Borean explores the value of having purposeful and meaningful work and provides three strategies to achieve long term value for workers and workplaces.
21.01.2022 Continuing on with our team introductions, today we asked Natalie to share a bit about herself: "Hey Everybody, My name is Natalie and I am the other North American on the Ascent Rehabilitation team. Many people mistake my accent as American, but Ill forgive them because I am a stereotypical polite Canadian. I moved to Australia in May 2018, after a long wait (~15 months) for a Working Visa. Your government wasnt completely sure if it was a good idea to have me here I gue...ss, but I am doing my best to prove them wrong! Prior to moving to Australia, I worked as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist in the Canadian school system. I do miss working with kids but have been enjoying the challenge of learning a new field of practice, in a new context. This is actually why I chose the profession of Occupational TherapyI am passionate about lifelong learning and personal and professional growthand I have found that this new adventure has expanded not only my clinical knowledge and expertise, but has also provided exposure to some wonderfully amazing and diverse people and occupations that I may not have otherwise encountered. When I am not at work, I enjoy watching and playing pretty much all sports (minus cricket.sorry, still havent been able to get my head around that one). My main athletic pursuit has always been basketball, and I spent much of my childhood travelling around Canada and America playing in basketball tournaments. I continue to play competitively here in Canberra (up the Stallies!), despite my ankles begging me to quit at times. Additionally, I enjoy hiking and visiting new sites within and around the ACT and NSW. I have been a part of various sports teams in the past and present, and have to rate the Ascent team up there as one of my favourites and one of the most supportive! I am so grateful to Jon and the rest of the Ascent team for welcoming me with open arms and becoming my Australian family." We know that it was the best idea to have Natalie in our team! We will keep working on getting her onto cricket :)
21.01.2022 We often forget about the effects a concussion can have on vision. An interesting read. If you have 3 minutes, watch the YouTube clip to put things into perspective.
20.01.2022 Its hard to believe we are already past the mid-way point of 2019! At Ascent we have been busy this year bringing on some amazing new staff members who are each making a positive and meaningful impact to our company and the industry. The first staff member we would like to introduce you to is Emma, who has joined Ascent as our Office Manager. We asked Emma to introduce herself: "Originally Im from the famous white sand beaches and pristine waters of Jervis Bay, I decided to... take a leap of faith and move to Canberra with my crazy yet adorable son. As a child, I was a tomboy and could be found making mudpies and notorious cubby houses rather than playing with Barbie. Ive since grown up to be a lover of beautiful dresses and make up but still encourage all young women to think outside the box and travel fiercely towards their goals and dreams whatever they may be In my adventurous early 20s I moved to Cable Beach in Broome where I had a pet camel called Bully and my favourite food is Japanese, it makes miso happy!" Welcome to the team Emma!!!!

19.01.2022 Today rather than an introduction, we are sharing a fairwell. Our incredible Business Manager Renae shares her news: Its with great excitement that I announce Ill be relocating to Geelong, Victoria in September 2019. My time with Ascent Rehabilitation has been nothing short of inspiring and Im so grateful to have the teams' support in this next chapter in my life. I joined Ascent Rehabilitation in early 2013 alongside Jonathan and two colleagues. I leave almost six years ...later, with a growing staff body of 10 and a workplace culture I couldnt be more proud of. I want to extend my appreciation to Jonathan and the team at Ascent who continue to provide best practice services far above and beyond industry standard here in the ACT. Its been both a pleasure and a privilege to work for this company, and I hope to one day see the Ascent Rehabilitation brand cross the borders of the ACT. Jonathan sums up from the Ascent team: "To our dearest Renae, It is with a heavy heart that I see you leave. But so thankful that you have been one of the founding members of Ascent. Your contributions to Ascent, including to myself and the team have been nothing short of amazing. I know that you have a bright future ahead of you, and that you will be a credit to any business that you are a part of in the future. Although filled with jealousy towards your future employer, I wish you every happiness. I look forward to walking into the office on a daily basis and seeing your laminated face and messages on the wall. Thank you Nae."

10.01.2022 TRADIES NATIONAL HEALTH MONTH Tradies National Health Month is a time to raise awareness regarding the importance of health and wellbeing for individuals in the trades industry. Almost 3 in 5 serious workplace injuries involve a tradie, however tradies only make up 35% of the workforce At Ascent we value the tradies and organisations that we support to ensure individuals can thrive in this line of work. This month particularly, we recommend;... Reflecting on tasks you are completing: do you feel safe, is this the most comfortable way to complete the task? Check in with yourself at the end of a day, how does your body feel? How is your mental health? Checking in with your workmates about how youre all going, ask your mates if theyre okay! Seek support through worksite assessments, physiotherapy or mental health support. Dont be afraid to reach out. Make self-care a priority, find healthy ways to unwind. E.g. going for a walk in the afternoon, listening to podcasts on the way home, spending quality time with family/friends. https://australian.physio/cam/tradies-national-health-month
