24.01.2022 Rescheduled Game Our game against Brunswick City on Thursday has been rescheduled because of rain. It will now be at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 18 December 2018.

22.01.2022 Ascot Vale Earn Prelim Spot On challenging courts at the beautifully presented Sandridge Trugo Club, Ascot Vale defeated Port Melbourne 114 to 96 in the First Semi-Final. Star of the day was James with 20. The Second-Semi featured the much anticipated Brunswick/Brunswick City Derby. Maintaining their H&A form, Brunswick cruised to a comfortable win and a place in the Grand Final. ... City and Ascot Vale will meet next Thursday at Temple Park to decide who makes it to the Grand Final. Be there for 12 noon start. Full scores at the Victorian Trugo Association Results Page. https://www.facebook.com/victoriantrugoassociation/

19.01.2022 After Round 9, these players are leading the individual averages.....

19.01.2022 Results and Ladder updated after Round 7 (1/11/18). Day of big scores - first time this season the aggregate was over 1000. And my favourite stat to this point of the season ... Number of forfeits = ZERO!!

17.01.2022 Pleasant Sunday in Footscray. On a perfect post-Grand Final spring day, Ascot Vale made the short trip to Buckley Street to be part of an important day for trugo. Without wanting to lay it on too thick, Sunday was a significant day in the history of trugo; not just because of the magnificent work of the Footscray Revival people in restoring the club but because it is cause for the whole trugo community to be optimistic about the future of our game.... The game itself was low scoring: entirely understandable on the recently laid new turf with the attendant challenges thrown up by a surface nobody has much experience of. I saw enough to be confident that there will be some big scores hit on these courts in the not too distant future. After a shaky start, the Ascot Vale players adjusted well to score a first half of 54 goals and take a good lead to half-time, 54 - 38, The second half was a much tighter contest with Footscray's Justin leading the way with 16. Our Tom's second hit 16 and Dave;s well made 12 kept us on track to split the second half 48 each for final scores of 102 - 86, After a pleasant supper, we all reflected upon the fact that, outside finals, it is unusual for trugo to be played before a crowd of spectators. Justin said to me that we had more than 30 people attend the match. I reckon that is brilliant and thank you to every one of them including the Yarraville and Port players for the support. Last Thursday, with no game for us, I went to Temple Park to watch Brunswick play South Melbourne. Brunswick will again be one of the teams to beat smashing a 70+ firast half and cruising to a 121 to 106 win. The courts at Temple Park are looking superb. In other games, Port 92 defeated Yarraville 84 at Port. I have spoken to some of the players. They cannot provide any explanation as to why the scores were so low on courts where the week before Port hit 138. At Sandridge, it was the close one with City getting on the winners list with a 105 - 103 victory. This coming Thursday, we are back at Maribyrnong Park hosting Brunswick: a match to tell us where we're at. Yarraville and Sandridge meet at Yarraville. South Melbourne host Footscray at Port. Couple of photos I've stolen from the Footscray Facebook page

13.01.2022 There's Two Times of Year .... As Melbourne, the city famous for four seasons in a day, readies itself for the biggest game of footy since 1980, this came to mind: "There's two times of year for me: trugo season and waiting for trugo season."... What a day we had in Maribyrnong Park for our Round 1 meeting with Sandridge! All the practice over winter seemed to pay off as we played a super first half hitting a total of 76. John 20, Tom 19, Terry 17 and the balance from me. Sandridge also played a strong first half (Noel 19 and Teo 18) but were unable to stop us establishing a significant half-time lead 76 -62. The second half caused me some anxiety as our lead started to evaporate. Nevertheless, lead by Teddie with a very fine 20 and Dave with a steady 16, we withstood the Sandridge attack to cruise to a comfortable 137 - 122 win. Sandridge's Dan was in fine form with a second half 20 and Teo played well all day. It was then time for a convivial supper with culinary highlights too plentiful to mention. A special welcome was extended to Sandridge's new recruit Drew. Meanwhile, at Temple Park, the derby was an epic stoush. Whoever did the fixture must have had a grin when this came out of the machine. Would have loved to be there to see it. Maybe someday we can mimic the AFL and have games Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday so we can all get to every event. Brunswick played a huge first half to take a 76 - 69 lead to half-time. Clearly not happy with this state of affairs, the City captain ditched the track suit and took up the challenge. On the outside court, Cookie hit 18 to get his team oh so close to the four points but falling short by a single goal 136 - 135. In the other game today, Port Melbourne had a good win against South Melbourne 138 -124. This was South's home game but was played at Port. South Melbourne will continue to play home games at Port this year while the Senior Citizens Club is being renovated. Don't have much detail but good to have Ivan back for South. Round 1 will be completed on Sunday at Yarraville when the home team host Footscray in their much anticipated return to the competition. Starts at 12 noon. get there to witness this historic event! Next week Ascot Vale will be at Footscray on Sunday (12 noon) for another historic occasion. On Thursday, Brunswick are at home to South, Port host Yarraville and Sandridge entertain Brunswick City. And the quote at the start? Google will reveal some stuff and while you are researching, take the opportunity to listen to Darius Rucker's cover of Wagon Wheel. photos later.
