24.01.2022 This is Demon, Dr Anna and Dr Adams Abyssinian. He is taking his role as work from home supervisor very seriously. In our profession, we cant do too much of our work from home, but we are trying to do as much administrative work as possible away from the hospital. Is anyone else working from home with their pets? Share a photo with us!

23.01.2022 Spring Tips #2: As the weather warms up, you might be thinking about the beach. More specifically, you might be thinking about the dog beach - the happiest place on Earth! If you’ve become a puppy parent in the last year, there are a few things to know before taking your young one to the beach for the first time. Here are our top five beach-going rules:... 1. Avoid peak sun 2. Keep your dog away from rough, choppy water 3. Bring an umbrella or gazebo for adequate shade 4. Discourage your dog from drinking salt water - always provide freshwater 5. Rinse off after to avoid skin irritation Got any questions about taking your pup to the beach? Find out more here! http://ow.ly/VpbM50C5Ilc

23.01.2022 COVID-19 Update We mentioned in our recent blog post that a dog in Hong Kong had tested weakly positive to COVID-19, and that we would keep you updated on any more news. The latest update from the Australian Veterinary Association is that the latest testing has come back negative and the dog continues to have no symptoms. At this stage there is still no evidence at all that dogs can play any role in the spread of this human disease, or that they can become sick. Spread by h...umans continues to be the concern. If you have an appointment booked with us and you have any concerns that you may have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, especially if you have travelled internationally recently, please give our reception a call on 08 9277 7488 before you come in. We are happy to have a chat with you to see if any alternative arrangements can be made for your appointment. Rest assured that we have put into place all of the cleaning and hygiene recommendations from the Australian Veterinary Association, to ensure that we all stay as healthy as possible. See more

22.01.2022 When it rains, it paws! Our server has crashed and unfortunately, we wont have our full computer network up and running until the weekend. We are still open and still working, but please be patient with us over the next few days. ... If you have an appointment booked, please email us your details at [email protected] so that we can double-check that our backup schedule is correct, or get in touch via our website https://www.ascotvet.com.au/ Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation!

21.01.2022 Good dental care is so important, and contributes significantly to your pets overall health. Good dental care: Prevents tooth loss (healthy teeth = no damaged tooth structures) Prevents bad breath (if your pet has really bad breath, it is time for some good dental care) ... Prevents oral pain (severe dental disease can be very painful for dogs) Prevents organ damage and failure ( bad bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and enter into the heart, kidneys and liver causing damage) See more

19.01.2022 Puppy classes are starting soon! We are hoping to have our first puppy classes starting in the week of the 18th of May. We are looking for puppies that are 16 weeks or younger to join our puppy classes. They also need to have had their first vaccination. This is a five-week course, with separate classes taking place every Tuesday evening and Thursday evening, which will run for an hour per session. ... STAY TUNED!

17.01.2022 A big welcome to the Ascot family to Clancy, a 10 week Cavoodle who is here for her puppy vaccines today ....................#ascotvet #perthvet #cavoodlesofinstagram #puppiesofinstagram

16.01.2022 #Yogi #Staffy #Character #PawsonalityPlusPlus Have you met Yogi yet? If not, hes definitely one youll want to meet. This 2-year-old male Staffy X is full of p...awsonality...like, choccers! Yogi bear loves to be loved. He craves human attention and affection, so hes going to make a very loyal and loving companion. Were looking for a home with older kids (teens best) as Yogi can be a bit jumpy at times and needs some formal training. In saying that, he LOVES his treats and is willing to do whatever it takes to obtain a treat - so he is super trainable. Yogi is best suited to having someone home a little more often while he settles in and learns the ropes - after he has settled in, he may be ok with full-time workers. This handsome lad has responded well with calm female dogs, but he is generally not a fan of male dogs. He does need a bit of work in this area, but he is showing good potential with female pooches. If you think Yogi bear is the boy for you, give us a call on 9381 8166 or come and visit him this weekend at 30 Lemnos St, Shenton Park. #dogsrefugehome #dogsofperth #rescueisthebestbreed #rescuedog #AdoptDontShop #dogsofinsta

15.01.2022 Our pawtrait competition has come to an end and we want to send a huge thank you to all our entrants! We really loved seeing all of your pawtraits. Thanks again for being part of the Ascot Family!

14.01.2022 Spring Tips #1: Remember to give your furry friend a flea treatment! Spring is the peak season for flea breeding, so it’s the best time of year to give your cat or dog a little extra protection. Flea treatments can be administered as a preventative measure even if your pet doesn’t have fleas - just make sure to always read the label and follow directions closely! Reach out to Ascot Vet to find out more about fleas > http://ow.ly/EMOU50C5IjU

14.01.2022 We are running another puppy class starting on the 10th of September and you do not want your pup missing out on this. Ensuring your puppy is trained from a young age is crucial to their health and development. Our puppy classes run for five sessions and cost $110. You will be taught preventative health care, training tips and behavioural strategies to ensure your pup transitions smoothly into your family unit. Remember your pup must be less than 16 weeks old and... have received its first vaccination to attend. Send us a Facebook message for any enquiries or questions. We cant wait to see you and your pup there

14.01.2022 Beware of pet-safe snail and slug poisons. Some claim to be pet safe due to having bittering agents included, unfortunately, some dogs will eat them regardless of taste! Others claim to be pet safe due to using Iron Phosphate rather than the traditional Metaldehyde. This compound can still cause illness to your pets if ingested.

14.01.2022 COVID UPDATE! We would like to share some up-to-date information from Ascot Vet as we enter phase three of restrictions: Puppy classes are coming back! Classes are running every Tuesday and Thursday evening. We ask that only one family member bring their pup to the class, so that we maintain a 1.5m social distance. ... For all other appointments, we can now welcome two people per pet into reception and into our consulting rooms. We may still need to have our nursing staff hold animals for exams, to ensure we are still adhering to the 1.5m social distancing requirements. A hand sanitizer will be available in the reception area, and we ask that all clients use this upon entering. We have incorporated vigorous cleaning and disinfecting routines to ensure that our staff and clients remain safe and clean. We ask that clients please use card systems instead of cash whenever possible. We thank you in advance for your support and coherence We hope to see you soon!

12.01.2022 To all our wonderful Clients, We hope that you are all keeping well during this stressful time. We thought that an update on the situation at Ascot Vets would be helpful. As of last Friday, we have officially been called an essential service by the Federal Government. This means, that despite all the current restrictions, we are able to stay open and keep helping you and your pets. The only restriction that is currently on us, is that we maintain the social distancing ...recommendations, and follow all of the hygiene protocols set in place by the Australian Veterinary Association. So we will need your help to keep following these recommendations, both to play our part in stopping the spread of this virus within our community, and to ensure we can all stay healthy and keep our doors open to you. We ask that you please consider the following when coming to see us at Ascot Veterinary Hospital; 1) Strictly only one client to accompany each pet to their appointment. Any persons in excess of this to please wait outside in the parking areas. 2) We can no longer have clients and vets in the close confines of the consulting room, both holding and leaning over the one animal. It is impossible to follow the 1.5m distancing rules in this scenario. Therefore, one of our nurses will take your pet from you safely, and bring them to the vet for his or her exam. Following this, the vets will have a full discussion with you at a safe distance. 3) We request that you avoid using cash unless there is no other alternative. We have full eftpos facilities available, this is much safer for our staff, rather than handling cash. 4) Please keep a 1.5m distance at all times when communicating with reception staff. We have taped this distance onto our floors to make this easier. 5) If you have any type of cold or flu symptoms, or have been requested to self isolate for any reason at all, please do not enter reception. We would appreciate it if you phoned us before your appointment and we will make special arrangements with you. Please rest assured we are being extremely vigilant with our cleaning and disinfecting procedures at all times. There is still no evidence of dogs or cats playing a role in the spread of COVID-19, but we advise all our clients to practice strict hand hygiene when handling their animals, especially if you are unwell for any reason. We would like to thank everyone for being so understanding and flexible during this time. Hopefully, we can continue to see you and your furry family members throughout 2020.

12.01.2022 We wouldnt have this practice without YOU! Its time to showcase our amazing clients and patients, not only in our hearts but on the walls of our vet. 09.01.2022 Its baby bird season and Native Animal Rescue has some great information about what to do if you come across a baby bird on the ground. Many people just pick up these birds and bring them to us, when in actual fact, they could still have been reunited with their mother. Before removing a baby bird, make sure it really is an orphan. Some birds can leave their nestlings for hours while searching for food. Fledglings can also commonly fall from the next while learning to fly. A... lot of baby birds just need a little help being reunited with their mums. If you find a nestling, look for a nearby nest and leave it there. A hanging basket can also be used if no nest can be found in nearby trees. The mother will usually locate the bird and continue to feed it. If you find a fledgling bird with short tail feathers, put it up as high as you can and the mother will usually find it. 03.01.2022 #China #LakelandTerrier #QuietHome **** ADOPTED **** We have a very special boy looking for a new home - his name is China and hes a 5.5 year old Lakeland Terr...ier. His owners health has sadly deteriorated and she has had to downsize. Now China is reluctantly looking for a new forever home. *** Please read through to see all of his requirements before applying *** China has spent the majority of his time with a lady owner. He has been used to a quiet household and he gets scared when in crowds which he shows with a little tail tuck so he needs a quiet home. China loves the car and has been used to going almost everywhere with his owner. Hell be the pawfect morning coffee companion. He has been used to his owner around during the day so is looking for a fit/ active retired person or someone who works from home. He does manage being left alone for a few hours as needed but has never been left fulltime. Part of the reason for his surrender is that China is an active, energetic boy and his owner could no longer exercise with him. It is vital that his new owner can take him on daily walks and ideally 2 x 30 mins daily at his age. His owner reported that China has nipped when excited but nothing more than this. He hasnt been around children at all, so we wouldnt be expecting him to live with them at this stage - unless in a quiet home of one - we are always willing to consider, but without placing unnecessary stress on our dogs to conform. Even though he hasnt been well socialised with other dogs, China can manage meeting dogs. However this should be done gradually - he has lived a quiet life and not been taken to dog parks or busy areas. China has room to grow in confidence and with the right companion spurring him will be an absolute gem. Were open today - Sunday 16th November from 11am to 4pm - last interviews for all dogs commence at 3pm. Come and meet China if you think youre the right new owner/s. #dogsrefugehome #dogsrescue #dogsofperth
