25.01.2022 Today is International Volunteer Day so we would like to thank everyone who has helped out in some way in this challenging year. In particular, we would like to acknowledge Linda who is the recipient of this year’s Volunteer Award for Outstanding Service! For the past 3 years, Linda has been helping in the canteen, breakfast club and other fundraising events - always with a smile and something positive to say. Thank you Linda, your help has been greatly appreciated by our school community.

23.01.2022 - , : Today the Premier announced a 6 day statewide lockdown starting at midnight tonight (Wednesday 18 November) t...hrough to midnight Tuesday 24 November. Only the children of essential workers and vulnerable children will be able to attend school, preschool or childcare. A skeleton staff will provide supervision but not a learning program for the remainder of this week. All students have been asked to take home school laptops, devices, books and anything they need to continue their learning from home. More information on learning programs will be provided early next week.

23.01.2022 . A lot of warnings have been issued for children to stay off social media, specifically Tik Tok, d...ue to a graphic self harm video that’s circulating. While we do recommend that parents monitor their children or keep them off the platform, it's a band-aid solution for a long-term issue due to the fact that distressing videos constantly circulate online. Instead we would like to encourage all parents and guardians to -: 1 . Understand that they will most likely use it, whether you understand the appeal or not. Ask them what apps they use, find out why they like those apps. Start a dialogue so you can start understanding why it’s important to them. The more you understand about it, the more you can stay across it. 2 . If you know what apps they’re using, help them make their profile as secure as possible, whether it’s TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitch or Reddit (the list is endless). You can do this with the help of this eSafety Commissioner guide: www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide 3 . Be open and willing to listen. Make them aware of Kids Helpline Official (1800 55 1800), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), headspace (headspace.org.au) and Lifeline (13 11 14) so they know they have a place to contact if they don’t feel comfortable approaching you. 4 . Kids often create a social media profile that they make visible to you, but keep their actual profile under a fake name hidden from you. Again, this is why we encourage you to talk to your child openly and honestly. 5 . If your child watches YouTube videos, please be aware there's no guarantee that this content will be safe for kids. People can easily edit distressing videos for kids that slip through the filters. If you can't monitor your child on YouTube then let them watch Netflix kids instead as it has stronger filters. SBS and ABC iview are both free alternatives for children’s online content. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is a great resource for parents, guardians and kids: www.esafety.gov.au

22.01.2022 It's a big exciting week for kids returning to school, and lots of little ones starting school. Those first day photos are such beautiful memories to look back ...on in years to come but this is a great reminder from the Daniel Morcombe Foundation about sharing those photos to social media. Consider the following Who else might be looking? What else might you be sharing? Who owns the image? Do not include in your social media post your child’s name, the address or suburb of the school they attend and only post greyscale pictures. There's some excellent info on their website www.danielmorcombe.com.au Take some time this week to have a read.

12.01.2022 It’s magpie swooping season and we have some nesting near and around our school. Listed below are some tactics to avoid being swooped: Carry an open umbrella above your head. Wear sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat.... If you ride a bike, walk it through magpie territory or have a flag on the back of the bike that is higher than your head. Do not act aggressively. If you wave your arms about or shout, the magpies will see you as a threat to the nest and not just this year, but for up to five years to come. Walk, don’t run. Avoid making eye contact with the birds. More information can be found at: https://www.environment.sa.gov.au//08/magpie-swooping-seas. Keep safe!
