21.01.2022 AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE ENDODONTIC MANAGEMENT OF THE OPEN APEX - presented by Dr Michelle Heffernan Immature teeth pose many endodontic treatment challenges, but premature loss of the tooth can be even more challenging. Many questions must be considered before endodontically treating a tooth with an open apex including: - Should this tooth have apexogenesis, apexification, or pulp revascularization?... - Which root filling material should be used? - What will the prognosis for the tooth be? - What is the long-term goal for the treatment provided? After this presentation, you will be able to make this an open and shut case. ENDODONTIC MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS AT RISK OF MRONJ AND ONJ - presented by Dr Jeffery Hislop Bisphosphonates and monoclonal antibodies are one of the most widely consumed groups of drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis. Intravenous bisphosphonates and therapeutic radiation are used to treat metastatic spread of cancer through the bones. All of these therapeutic modalities are risk factors in the development of osteonecrosis of the jaw. This lecture looks at the risk factors associated with their use, as well as clinical management of at-risk patients. Don’t miss these fantastic lectures at the 7th Tran-Tasman Endodontic Conference, May 28-30, Sydney Non-ASE Members are most welcome. TTEC registration is all-inclusive, including dinner on the Starship Sydney https://starshipsydney.com.au/our-starships/

20.01.2022 Dear ASE Members, It gives me great pleasure to pass on some information from Wiley, the publisher of the Australian Endodontic Journal. The 2018 impact factor for the AEJ rose to 1.714, up from 1.371 in 2017. The impact factor of a journal is a measure of the yearly average number of citations to recent articles, which broadly means more articles in the AEJ are now being read and referenced to in the endodontic literature. This result places the AEJ at number 42 out of 9...0 in the category of Dentistry, Oral Surgery, and Medicine. We should all be pleased that we are punching well above our weight. This result has come about in no small part thanks to the tireless work of the Editor of the AEJ, Dr Stephen Harlamb, and the other members of the editorial board. I'd like to extend our congratulations to Dr Harlamb and the board for their hard work in giving the AEJ this high profile and exposure. Kind regards, Khash Nassery.
