11.01.2022 Humans of ASfAR #4 - Lisa Marie Emerson is a Senior Lecturer in Child and Family Psychology at the University of Canterbury, Aotearoa New Zealand, and a Clinical Psychologist. She is also a new member of the Executive Committee, ASfAR! After living in the UK for most of her life, Lisa moved ‘down under’ in 2017. She enjoys the lifestyle in Aotearoa New Zealand, where every weekend there is an adventure to be had with her husband and two dogs. In the UK, Lisa split her work-li...fe between academia and psychological practise in multidisciplinary child services. Lisa steers her research towards answering those questions that she saw repeating themselves in clinical practice. Through her research, Lisa is interested in finding ways to support parents and families, so that this can have a knock-on benefit for their child’s wellbeing. In particular, she is interested in the relationship between parent and child wellbeing and mental health. Lisa is a trained mindfulness teacher, and is interested in how mindfulness can help parents to manage their own wellbeing. Lisa is currently conducting a partnership project with the Autistic and autism communities, which will co-produce a set of autism research priorities in Aotearoa New Zealand. Through this project, Lisa is honoured to be working alongside inspiring people from the Autistic community, as well as a great network of family and whnau, researchers and clinicians. She is grateful to the supportive and enthusiastic community of humans of ASfAR, which helped to encourage her to embark on this vital partnership project. See more
