05.01.2022 Grand final time at Ashy Futsal tonight, with plenty of skill on show. In Div 1, it was a commanding 5-1 victory for Front Heel over the Dragons, in a match featuring a stack of current Ashy players, Ashy Old Boys, plus a bloke in goals looking remarkably like ressie skipper Nick Bucello! Meanwhile Blue Samurai were crowned Div 2 Champions after an extra time 7-5 win over the Law Abiding Sigurdssons. A special mention to old mate Karvs who scored an absolute banger and Leigh in goals who pulled off some ridiculous saves to keep the Law Abiders in it.

02.01.2022 Ashburton United is delighted to confirm its senior men’s coaching panel for season 2020. As previously announced, Zoran (Zocky) Tudor has taken over as First Team Coach. He will be supported by recently retired first team player Marko Gluscevic as Assistant Coach. Robert Vranesic joins as First Team Manager, having formerly played at Ashy several years ago. Fernando Hompart continues as Reserves Coach, maintaining his focus on player development and the transition of youth p...layers into the AUSC senior’s program. He will again be supported by Jim Karvounaris, who saddles up for another year as Reserve Team Manager. Finally, Dele Sanusi has been invited to continue as Metro Teams coach. Congratulations to our senior coaches and managers on their appointments. We’re now all set for a HUGE 2020!

01.01.2022 It was a busy weekend for the Ashy’s seniors, with games against Point Cook on Saturday followed by the Ashy Fair on Sunday. Playing away, the ressies hung on for a valiant 4-3 victory. Having turned in a dominant first half performance, coach Fernando was forced to look for help from the sideline after going down to just 10 fit players. With only crickets left on the bench, Fernando drafted in super-sub Freddy Rubinstein, who had just wandered back from the canteen laden wit...h potato cakes, dimmies and fries. Quickly slipping into Nick’s glorious pink keeper shorts, Freddy bounded on to the pitch and played his part as a marauding striker, putting fear into the Point Cook defence possibly because of the shorts. In the end it was enough to help the ressies take home the chocolates, as well as Freddy’s potato cakes. Meanwhile the Firsts put in a commanding performance, turning on the after burners to eventually run out 4-1 victors. Chris Pascal-Therios scored his maiden goal for the Greens (carrying on the Ashy legacy established by his dad and sister) while Tommy Standish got a brace and Micky Grogan scored the other. It was also great to see Kurt and Tommy Polish who cheered on the boys from the sidelines. Having put in a big shift on Saturday, it was terrific to see some of the senior boys back it up by helping out on the club stand at the Ashy Community Festival. With balls flying everywhere, the boys probably worked harder than they did during the game managing the giant soccer dartboard, which was a big hit with kids of all ages. Next week the seniors are on the road again, this time travelling to Ballarat for their next pre-season game. This is all part of the club’s efforts to show new UK recruit Jacob as much of Victoria as possible before the season starts in earnest.

01.01.2022 The Ashy Seniors’ pre-season kicked off this week under new senior coach Zocky Tudor and his assistants Marko and Rob. Surprisingly, some of the boys turned up in pretty good shape, including some returning club legends along with some new faces who will no doubt bolster the squad. But anyone thinking the first week was going to be easy were going to be ‘sorely’ disappointed. After two gruelling sessions on the track, the boys then hit the beach on Saturday morning, which Tr...enter clearly enjoyed the most, as it was just like one of his giant ice baths In the coming weeks it will be the turn of the Ressie and Metro Squads to hit the track. For now, if any new player is looking to have a run with the Seniors, then please contact Coach Zocky on 0466 397 224.
