23.01.2022 Thirds brilliant one-shot win todays highlight. The mighty Thirds pulled off a one shot win against last-placed Bennettswood at home today in one of the most amazing sections results you will ever see. Ashy 79 d Benettswood 78 / Clayton 79 d G Waverley 78 - same score / M Waverley 80 d Oakleigh 79 and Vermont S 78 lost Chaddy 81 while Mulgrave 9ths were trounced at Auburn. The thirds are fourth, fantastic, a home win this week against Chaddy and they will be right up there at... the Christmas Break. One more thing, every rink in todays game was decided by less than two shots, you have to wonder why Bennettswood are last? The Seconds were five shots up with an end to pay but dropped a five to tie it up, 84 to 84 after 84. This does not hurt too much as the seconds stay third and played a team at or about the same level, with Donvale just two points below Ashy in fifth. The seconds remain our best performed team and have shown consistency all season, this week they play Mount Waverley at home, and its their top side, will Gary Cooper be on our green again? The top side were lackluster at Mulgrave today, dropping all four rinks between 2 to 9 shots, in a reasonably close tight contest. Joseph said before the game that we would be playing on the western most rink as Mulgrave would better understand the tunnel effect of the wind, and it proved decisive as they cleared out to a dozen shot lead, which Ashy could not penetrate for the rest of the afternoon. Every rink at some stage drew back to the lead, or a shot or two, but the consistency wasn't there. Pakenham were beaten at home by Berwick and have entered a three-way battle with us and our neighbour. Let us hope that the washout at home, last week against Packy, will not be the opportunity lost that relegates us. This week we are away at Croydon, who were at home today and beat Burwood by 56 shots. It has been said that none of our rinks have been thrashed, and every rink fights to the end. Our losses this year have yielded very few points unfortunately. The overall margins do tell a different story to the points achieved, Croydon - down by 19 shots, Ringwood 21 shots, FTG 19, Berwick 3, Heathmont 18 and today, our biggest loss, Mulgrave -23 shots. The fourths are knocking on the door of a win and lost today at Glen St, but took away 4 points. This team continues to improve and a good win is just around the corner and will bear celebration of the highest order! One of our own, Shaun Wilson beat a Mulgrave bowler for the Eastern Region Under 25 title on Wednesday, so it was good to get something on them this week. They are a big strong club, and their win against us today put them into the four. Not a great day overall and nothing to get panicky about, but a little bit of luck would not go astray, Go Ashy.
23.01.2022 Well here is a shock to the system. Ashy is back on top of the SDELBA Night Pennant Ladder. Beaumaris losing badly to Cheltenham, at Cheltenham, and Bentleigh narrowly losing to Clayton at Clayton.
21.01.2022 Many thanks to Dr. Katie Allen.
21.01.2022 Aaaah , what a wonderful memory, especially the players. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=434222620010679&id=307382149361394
20.01.2022 With one end to play Ashburton trailed Glen Eira McKinnon by two shots. Quirko surrounded the jack to hold two only to see them slip away, but Lee and Kortum weren't done and put Ashy in front with a three shot hold. Second-last bowl of the night sees that disappear, the Glen Eira skip plays a ripper draw to hold one, and the match. Villani looks at his options and nominates pushing a red bowl through the head to force the jack back for numbers. This he coolly did and after L...iz forced a full measure, Villani had orchestrated a seven shot turnaround, scoring a six, Ashy home by 4 overall, undefeated after three rounds. It must be said that bottom placed Glen Eira were very unlucky and probably won't be on the bottom forever. Two rinks up has us either first or second with 3 wins from 3 starts, Clayton next week away, time for a steak and a few pots, join us there if you like! GO ASHY!
20.01.2022 Night Pennant Round 5 vs CHELTENHAM Undefeated Ashy took on the strong 3rd. placed Cheltenham at Ashburton tonight, and came back to earth quickly with a thud! We quickly discovered that no matches would be easy this year at after 8 ends the Big Board said Ashy 21 shots vs Cheltenham 22 shots! Grant Pickering’s rink of himself, Ian Lee, Dianne McLeod and Ken Lawrence was involved in an epic shot for shot, 1 shot per end battle. You had to deliver centimetre perfect bowls, a...Continue reading
19.01.2022 Well that concludes another Good Season for Ashburton at Southern Indoor Bowls. Finishing 5th, 2 points from 4th. Including a tie, 3 losses by less than 5 shots and defeating the Powerful Beaumaris Side!!! Well done and thankyou to everyone who turned out for us this year.
18.01.2022 This evening Gordon Unwin and Dianne McLeod played the Eastern Ranges Mixed Pairs final against Mary Farley and Max Goldsmith but unfortunately went down 18 to 22. Loosing 5 on the 14th end tells the story but very proud with both Gordon’s and my bowls throughout the competition. Gordy, thanks again for partnering me and hope we can pair up again next year and bring it all the way home
17.01.2022 Night Pennant Round 12 Tuesday February 20th. Ashburton (Top of the Ladder) ventured down to Cheltenham (4th) last night to play one of our potential Finals opponents on their home Green. Despite Ron Hodge’s (The Fountain of All Knowledge) assurance that their green was a paddock and would run at around 11.5 seconds, it looked like rolled mud and played at around 16 seconds!!!! Cheltenham was clearly fired up for this game, believed they could defeat us and had Come to Pl...Continue reading
16.01.2022 Night Pennant Round 3, November 28th. Ashy at home versus the lowly Glen Eira Mc Kinnon. WHAT A NIGHT! We quickly learnt that nothing was going to be easy this year. Glen Eira was rock Bottom with only 4 points, and we were 1 game clear of the pack already in 2nd place. You cannot relax.... Rinks of: P Simos R Wilson T Villani G Pickering S Wilson L Kortum D Mc Leod A Eyers I Lee S Cornish P Odgers T Quirk We thought were VERY STRONG! And playing at home in our stronghold. Peter Simos’ rink soon discovered that the opposition had come to play, and the skip and lead against them were very strong. Anything we produced, they produced better, and after 10 ends the score line was 3 for us vs, 12 for the baddies. Collecting 5 on the next 3 ends made it look better at8 vs 12, but that was, sadly, the end of our run. Glen Eira collected an additional 5 on the last 4 ends and we went down 8 vs 17. Rob Wilsons rink was faring better, and was keeping us slightly ahead or close on the big board. There were no big ends, but little fish are sweet, and this rink led by 4 shots most of the night, until dropping a 3 on the 2nd last end, making the score 12 vs 11. This was tense, but Rob was up to it and they grabbed 1 shot and 2 valuable points. Mr. Villani’s rink was just struggling. Despite delivering some great bowls and strong heads, the opposition skip was just grabbing saving shots with his last bowl, keeping them out of multiple shots, multiple times. They could not get ahead and still trailed 6 vs 8 on the 12th. End! Then the tide turned with a 4, then a 3, followed by another 4 2 ends later, putting them 17 vs 9 up! 2nd last end, with Ashy 1 up on the big board, what was almost a prefect shot turned sour, and 1 down became 3 down. ASHY WAS 2 BEHIND WHERE IT COUNTED. Both the other rinks had finished and the spectators were holding their breath. Terry Quirk set up an 8 with 2 fantastic bowls, Ian added 1 to them and we were holding 3!!! Ian and Liz put bowls just past the head but handy. Holding 3 and the skips to bowl, the opposition skips 1st slid through a miniscule gap and out of contention, Tony came to bowl. His 1st bowl just didn’t make the count. The opposition skip then produced and absolute perfect draw to hold shot!!! Tony consulted with Liz and then discussed options with Rob For A LONG TIME. He then nominated, an overweight bowl, into a front bowl, which will roll into the shot bowl and get rid of it, then he will carry on to the jack and move it 2 feet to our bowls! IT NEVER LOOKED LIKE MISSING 6 Shots to Ashy! A big board win of 4 shots, 44 vs 40 and 2 rinks up!!!! Tony you are a LEGEND! Go Ashy Power! Still undefeated and off to the Clayton Stronghold next week.
16.01.2022 Here is the Round 12 Night Pennant Ladder. Ashburton moves 11 points clear at the top following Bentleigh's shock loss to South Oakleigh. Our Opponents next Tuesday at Ashburton. Just another reminder we cannot take anyone for granted.

10.01.2022 Tuesday Night Pennant Update. Apologies for the delay, but the Christmas Break interfered, and the Ladders after Round 7 never arrived. This is a Long Report READ AWAY. SO: 2 BIG BIG Weeks for Ashy, as I mentioned. Following the Washout against the Bottom Side South Oakleigh, where we received No points, we had to play Bentleigh, 2nd. At Ashy, and then Beaumaris, 3rd, at Beaumaris. Bentleigh came to Ashy fired up and ready for a Big game also. They had some seriousl bowler...Continue reading

08.01.2022 What a Day of excitement it was at Ashy this afternoon. When the 2nds were washed out before afternoon tea playing on Box Hill’s synthetic it was shaping as a slow day. However on our return to Ashy we find the 3rds. Have also called off their game, despite leading by 20 shots and the Top Side continuing to play on the Lower Green. Questions were asked about commitment. But when the 4th. Side also returned after an early washout the Crowd watching the Top Side had swelled to ...over 30, and a very vocal crowd it was too. The match was on a knife’s edge when we arrived and it never let any of the spectators down. Tom Gowie’s rink was first finished and recorded a 12 vs 22 loss. At this stage Grant Pickering had 2 ends to play, Rob Wilson 4 and Joe Horsefield about 7 and Ashy was 6 shots up on the Big Board. Grant’s rink had obviously had a day out, and I understand they shot straight out of the blocks to a big early lead. They finished with an enormous 37 v 14 win. Absolutely superb, which matched the bowls I saw from the whole rink. Rob Wilson, Tony Villani, Karen Wilson and Carol Riedell laboured away against some brilliant driving and some dead set lucky wicks. This match had never more than a 2 shot difference while we were watching, and every single end, and I mean every end, Ashy were holding shot/s that were occasionally smacked into the ditch, sometimes beaten by brilliant bowls and then also beaten by dead set luck. With scores level on the last end we were holding 3, then 2 then 1 and at the end minus 1. But in a great effort then end result was a 1 shot loss. Now the overall difference was Ashy leading by 10 shots, Joe’s rink, with 4 ends to play were 3 down. The Spectators were on edge, and getting more and more vocal. The next 3 ends were a delight to watch, with Ashy picking up 3 shots to make the rink score level, and Ashy safe on the Big Board. The last end saw us hold shot, and then a superb up shot from David Wight took the jack into the ditch and Ashy sitting about 20 cms. Away. Anton put in a great 2nd shot, which was eventually just beaten, but Ashy took the end and the rink win by 1 shot!! A Fantastic Day by Ashy, 2 rinks up (1 down by 1 shot) and a 17 shot win. According to the results that are in this Closes the gap at the bottom of the ladder and puts us within reach of safety. A couple of good wins will secure Division 1 for 1028/19. 7 Mulgrave CC (1) 10 3 6 1 0 700 719 -19 97.36 73 8 Berwick (1) 11 4 6 1 0 673 718 -45 93.73 68 9 Burwood District (1) 11 2 7 2 0 732 842 -110 86.94 61 10 Ashburton (1) 11 3 7 1 0 713 825 -112 86.42 55 Unfortunately the other divisions results are not complete so we cannot update the other sides ladders.
