25.01.2022 Ease back into your workout routines. I know it's exciting, but don't go nuts!
24.01.2022 Pain with exercising isn't always dangerous or mean your problem is getting worse.
24.01.2022 We can help with these clicky knees also. Have a look at our GLA:D classes or simply book into physio (98854484) to get a program designed to help strength the muscles around the knee.
24.01.2022 Morning chuckle. Get some exercise!
23.01.2022 The first cohort of our Good living with Arthritis GLAD class has finished with great success. We are looking for more people to help! Trouble with hip and / or knee osteoarthritis? Find out how best to manage those knees and hips. Call in to the clinic (98854484) to ask about the GLAD program. It consists of education, exercises and weight management. It may also stop the need for a joint replacement and increase participation in loved activities such as running. Book an assessment by calling us on 98854484. * Participants photo used with permission.

23.01.2022 We love resistance training and national health guidelines recommend that we all attempt to undertake two sessions a week to keep our strength, fitness and capacity. Unfortunately, we have seen a lot of injured people in the clinic recently who have been trying to go it alone and learn on the fly. This can lead to mistakes and injury. Please remember that getting some advice and education when starting a new program can be of great benefit and prevent unnecessary injury. Thi...s is best done in the setting where you are going to train so feedback can be given in real time. We are here to help for second opinions about programs or first point of contact for when injury occurs. Please call 98854484 if any problems occur. Stay active.
21.01.2022 Darren and Kristen along with our families have had a great summer holiday at Fairhaven and will be back on deck in Ashburton this week. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
19.01.2022 RAZOR SHARP tan lines on our physio Perry's legs as he participates in a week long ride to raise money and awareness for persistent pain management. 18.01.2022 Quadriceps! Here are a few simple variations of squats that you can do to work on your Quads. Put together and they're a great thigh buster.... These muscles are super important for a healthy knee. 1. Wall squats. 2. Decline squats. 3. Terminal knee extensions. 4. Spanish squats. Make sure you can comfortably do 20-30 repetitions before progressing to single leg variations. Great for a stable knee.

14.01.2022 Day 4 of the @painrevolution made for a hard 150km. Long flats at a fast pace of 30km/hr from Traralgon to Bairnsdale. We were rewarded with a beautiful day and... seeing a wedgetail eagle pair! There were moments of near breaking, but I managed to hang in there for the most part. In the last 10km, with the sound of a gunshot, I unfortunately blew a tyre out. I managed to stay up so no harm done. I didn't finish the day as I would like, but the bike is fixed and we're up in the mountains tomorrow for another tough day. If you're following my journey you know I need to raise some money. I have some great friends and family who have helped out. I'm only $500 off my $3000 target. If you can pitch in I would greatly appreciate it! 13.01.2022 @painrevolution 2020 is fast approaching and Perry's snazzy kit has arrived. The whole crew of 40 odd riders will be decked out in similar so it will be hard to miss them! Their aim is to increase access to better care for pain management in country communities such as those affected by the fires earlier this year. The team will be heading out through Gippsland along their travels. ... If you would like to donate please copy and paste the link below. https://painrevolution2020.everydayhero.com//perry-s-pain-
13.01.2022 Photos from a recent GLAD in-service at work so all the physios know what's involved when their knee and hip arthritis patients come to class. 6 weeks of supervised exercise twice a week followed by 6 weeks unsupervised. It is safe to exercise with arthritis despite what your scan says. You are not your scan. @ Ashburton, Victoria
13.01.2022 Coronavirus times have forced us into quarantine and new quaran-training routines. We have had so many stories of dogs getting walked by EVERY family of the member that they are getting exhausted and even made trips to the vet themselves between hidding from their humans . Right here is a great example of acute training overload. Look after your doggos as well as your own feet, ankles, calves and knees with all the walking. It's okay to take a break!... Exercise is safe, but progress gradually. @ Ashburton Physiotherapy and Pilates
12.01.2022 Lets not be so afraid of a meniscal tear Tears in the meniscus and the rotator cuff muscles are often just normal age-related changes and nothing to worry ab...out. Sometimes, surgery can be the best option of course. Our clinical reasoning is always very important! You can learn a lot about knee OA from the lectures from prof. Ewa Roos and Soren Skou on: www.trustme-ed.com Great post by @movementpainpt! There's interesting article cited in Dr. Ian Harris' book "Surgery, the ultimate placebo" The small inconsequential benefit seen from interventions that include arthroscopy for the degenerative knee is limited in time and absent at one to two years after surgery. Knee arthroscopy is associated with harms. Taken together, these findings do not support the practice of arthroscopic surgery for middle-aged or older patients with knee pain with or without signs of osteoarthritis. 11.01.2022 Ive made this post because I want to make a difference in the lives of people living with persistent pain in country Australia. Im inspired by the work of Pai...n Revolution, powered by University of South Australia, and want to support them by raising money as part of my participation in the Rural Outreach Tour 2020. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the link below. Please copy and paste into your browser to help out. https://painrevolution2020.everydayhero.com//perry-s-pain- The More people that know about Pain Revolution, the greater their impact, so please spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot. THINK RIDING A BIKE AROUND VICTORIA IS TOUGH? Its hard work, but probably not as hard as living with persisting pain. Pain Revolution has a big challenge ahead to give all Australians access to the knowledge, skills and local support they need to prevent and overcome persisting pain. In 2020, we are heading back to Victoria. Persisting pain is pain that affects peoples lives for a longer time than needed for tissues to heal, and can last from months to years. Pain that persists: Affects 1 in 5 Australians right now. Is Australias most costly health problem and most common reason for early retirement. Most common in the bush. An area of health care where research & resources are desperately needed. We need to completely RE-THINK persisting pain. We need to RE-ENGAGE with this massive problem, and give people resources to RECOVER. We need a REVOLUTION! The Pain Revolution is a 7 day cycle tour from 7-14 March 2020, led by some of Australians leading pain scientists and clinicians. They are taking on their own physical challenge, riding their bikes from Geelong to Wangaratta, Victoria They are stopping at rural centres en route to discuss the latest discoveries and learn from clinicians and communities who are facing this massive health problem every day. By making a donation to the University of South Australia in support of Pain Revolution, 100% of your money will go directly to supporting the development of accessible, community-based pain education programs for people living with persisting pain via the Pain Revolution Local Pain Educators program. It is desperately needed and remember, every little bit helps!

10.01.2022 Single Leg Rise. Great movement anyone and everyone can practice. Good for rehab and good for prevention of injuries as well. Typical conditions where we might use this exercise are knee cap pain, osteoarthritis, ACL prehab/rehab, and arthroscopy. It helps your knees, hips and ankles. ... Being able to do greater than 22 may reduce associated changes with knee osteoarthritis (Thorstensson et al, 2004). Pick a chair so that your knee starts off as roughly 90. Keep the movement steady and balanced. If you've never done it before and can't do a squat start with the double leg variation. With a history of chronic ankle instability this is a real struggle for me on one side, but not the other. Good news is that we can always improve. Practice makes perfect.
10.01.2022 Pain can be so fascinating! Unpleasant for sure, but have a watch for some wonderful insights into how pain can be unique and different for any individual. Book a physio appointment for answers to any questions about pain or injury.... We can help. 98854484.

10.01.2022 Pain Revolution 2020 complete. After 860km riding and bringing the latest in persistent pain treatment to rural and regional areas they are done! Along the way they raised money to continue this journey for many years to come. What a great effort and we congratulate our Physio Perry for participating! He reports that a personal riding highlight were the mountain climbs. The climb up falls creek was 9km at an average of 9% incline. It was gruelling, but with everyone around h...e never thought once that he wouldn't make it. "It's all about moving forward, just keep moving forward one pedal at a time". It's a great metaphor for recovery that often you just have to keep chipping away and it definitely helps with support alongside. He was rewarded with lunch at the top and an exciting descent! He also got to hang out with like-minded experts and soak in different thoughts and perspectives on physiotherapy and pain recovery. He can't wait to bring these back into the clinic to help our patients on their recovery journey. If you would like to donate to the cause please see the link below. Perry still needs $500 to reach his target of $3000. @ Ashburton Physiotherapy and Pilates. https://painrevolution2020.everydayhero.com//perry-s-pain-
08.01.2022 Great find by @adammeakins in his study a day challenge . In the studies looked none of them found increased pain after or during the intervention . A lot of pa...tients found reductions in pain, reduction in medication, improvements in quality of life and sleep . These strength training exercises were probably better classified as resistance exercises. It was recommended that interventions started off low at 40% 1RM and gradually increased the intensity. The training should be done 2-3x/233& and was showed to be safe as well . Always good to know that the body of evidence points to those in chronic pain (or fibromyalgia if the diagnosis means anything to you) can benefit a lot from exercise . Find a healthcare practitioner to get you started on this! . Andrade, A., Steffens, R. D. A. K., Sieczkowska, S. M., Tartaruga, L. A. P., & Vilarino, G. T. (2018). 05.01.2022 Most of our Ashy Physio family know that one of our team (Perry) has been up to a lot of riding lately. He's been in training to participate in a 800km ride to assist country communities in Australia access better care for persistent pain. He's lost 8 kgs, fallen off his bike several times, joined an unspoken road warrior gang, and even raised $1500 so far. The @Pain Revolution ride is fast approaching and unfortunately a sponsor of his failed to come through. As a result h...e's still chasing his tail in order to raise the last $1500. We're truly passionate about this cause so if anyone has anything to spare then please donate to the link below. Any amount counts and it all helps. Any questions, just sing out. https://painrevolution2020.everydayhero.com//perry-s-pain-
05.01.2022 This is a simple truth that bears repeating - pain does not equal injury. It is so critical to recognise the fact that pain is not a simple measure of what is happening at the tissue level, but instead a complex protective mechanism that is multi-faceted. This single concept opens up so many potential pathways to helping clients move past their pain. This in no way means that tissues do not matter, but that they are NOT the whole story when it comes to the pain experience #painscience #neuroscience #physio
