23.01.2022 Staying connected has never been more important. Help your child maintain their relationships with family and friends by getting creative with how you communicate! Have your kids send a letter or a drawing to their relatives. Or make a short film/play to send over social media. Get creative, have fun, and build your relationships from a distance!

23.01.2022 Tired of eating the same meals each week? Spice up your familys dinner routine, and teach the kids some valuable skills! Challenge your children to take part in planning a meal - That could mean they become your kitchen helper, search for recipes, make shopping lists, or take charge of everything and cook for the whole family! Give them some responsibility, try new things, and make some time for family!

23.01.2022 Ashbury Interior Decorating Tip A quick coat of paint, some wallpaper, or small accessories added to any room in your home is a great way to add some vibrant summer colours to your home's interior. You don't need to be a contractor or designer to make these small changes, and they are a great way to add some impact and style to any room!

22.01.2022 LOVE LOCAL. THE FLYING BRICK CIDER HOUSE This month we catch up Lyndsay Sharp, who co-owns and operates The Flying Brick Cider House at Wallington, along with her husband, David. When did you open the Flying Brick Cider House?... We opened our doors in December 2014. Why? What was the motivation for doing so? We started crafting Flying Brick ciders in 2010 in our winery at Leura Park Estate. It was a case of good timing, a bit of luck and having a go. Demand was huge! Flying Brick quickly became the fastest growing craft cider in Australia. It got to the stage where we felt Flying Brick Cider Co deserved its own ‘home’ and so the Cider House was born. Where did the name Flying Brick come from? The name comes from the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo whose local nick name is ‘Flying Brick’. Local legend has it that if a flock flies overhead, you‘re blessed with good luck. How many people work at Flying Brick Cider House? A lot! All up, around 20 people work at the actual Cider House itself from the GM to chefs, an events manager and front of house staff. Behind the scenes there’s our Cider Maker, Nyall Condon, and his team, plus our marketing, administration, sales and warehouse staff. What are the best and worst, things about owning your own business? One of the best things is being able to make decisions and activate concepts quickly and assessing then adapting them on the run if and when required. There’s no red tape, and we both love that. The downside is that it really is a 24/7 proposition. So, the buck very much stops with the two of us when there are any challenges. What do you love most about your job? Facilitating great, memorable downtimes for people is a privilege whether it’s enjoying a Flying Brick Cider at home, in a paddock, at a pub, at a picnic with friends it’s all about experience. For more information visit www.flyingbrickciderco.com.au or else ring 5250 6577 Facebook and Insta: Flying Brick Cider Co.

13.01.2022 If youre wanting to freshen up your living room this isolation period, but on a tight budget, then get your notepad ready! Here are our top five tips to spruce up your living room cost-effectively. 1. Re-arrange your furniture: We know it sounds like an obvious one, but it works! Before you buy that new sofa, resist the temptation and re-envision what you already have. Refocusing the layout could allow you to update your living room without splashing out. Try moving the ...furniture away from the walls, move the coffee table to the left, or remove a couple of paintings. De-cluttering also makes the living room feel larger. 2. Bring new colour into the room: This is a very simple way to update your living room. Updating your accent colours can be as easy as adding a new blanket and some throw pillows to liven up the room. And as we start to move into Spring, try adding pastels to brighten up the space and make the room feel more airy. 3. Frame your kids drawings: If you have a wall thats bare, and you have young children, theres no need to spend money on expensive artwork. Kids drawings are colourful, plus they hold a lot of meaning. Find cheap white frames online or at the Bunnings or K-Mart, and these will become masterpieces you will cherish forever. 4. Plants: Everyones favourite living room accessory! Plants add colour, shape and life to a space. Plus there are plenty of great places you can pick up inexpensive, high-quality plants such like Bunnings and Ikea. You can mix and match with fun pots, or even put your plants into wicker baskets. This will fill a room perfectly and add something new to the room. 5. Lighting: Living room lighting can be updated very quickly and doesnt have to cost a lot of money. You can buy floor lamps or table lamps at different heights, which will create cosy pools of light that can quickly change the mood of a room. Plus, investing in a terrazzo lamp base, or a colourful lamp shade can change the room.

09.01.2022 Please sign the petition to get a post office built in Armstrong Creek Armstrong Creek is the largest contiguous growth area in the state, expected to house up to 65,000 people. Already, more than 15,000 people call Armstrong Creek home. But this enormous growth area is still lacking a post office.... There is a lot of frustration particularly in these COVID times when many are buying products online and need to line up at the small branch office in Peter Street in Grovedale 10 mins away or outside the Waurn Ponds post office. As it stands, the entire 3217 postcode is only serviced by one curbside post box. That is not good enough. To sign the petition, please visit www.libbycoker.com.au/postoffice

08.01.2022 Want to walk out of isolation with a fresh face and glowing skin? All of us have a little bit of time on our hands at the moment. So why not light a candle, turn on your favourite Netflix movie and throw your own pamper night! Home-made face masks are natural, super easy and affordable, as many of us have the ingredients right in our pantry. So give it a go and make your own. Here are our favourite face masks you can make at home... Cacao, Honey + Avocado: This yummy, ful...ly edible mask will work wonders for your face, as avocado is extremely hydrating, cocoa is an excellent skin-soothing antioxidant, and honey is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. All you need to do is mash one-quarter of an avocado in a small bowl, stir in one tablespoon cocoa powder and one tablespoon honey, mashing and mixing well. Apply the mask to your clean, dry skin for 10 minutes. Then wash off with warm water, then moisturize as per usual. Egg yolk, honey, olive oil + oats: This breakfast-themed mask helps calm and mattify oily skin. Combine one egg yolk, one tablespoon of honey, and one tablespoon of olive oil with half a cup of oatmeal. Stir well, then apply it to your face for 15 - 20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and then moisturize. Almonds + Olive Oil: Mix a handful of ground almonds and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Leave it on for 10 minutes, but before rinsing it off, gently massage the paste into your skin to dislodge everyday grime, make-up, dead cells and oil. This mask helps protect skin from pollution, and fight against free radicals which can lead to dullness, dehydration and fine lines.

07.01.2022 Masterclass: How to make the perfect sponge cake. Baker Adam Cox knows a thing or two about sponge, having made cakes for plenty of celebrity customers, including Ralph Lauren, Damien Hirst, Jonathan Ross and Jimmy Carr. Follow his 10 simple tips that will produce a light, fluffy, moist triumph, every time. Have your ingredients ready... Have all ingredients prepared and weighed out before starting to mix. This will ensure that the mixing process can be completed without having to stop and start while you're weighing out, which could result in over-mixing. Room temperature Keep all ingredients at room temperature (butter nice and soft, eggs not too cold). By having the eggs at room temperature, it means the yolks and whites combine more easily, ensuring a more even bake. Mix it up Use a mixer if possible to cream the butter and sugar first. This is the quickest and most effective way to get a creamy consistency in your batter. Gently does it Fold in the flour gently by hand. This is the best way to combine heavy ingredients with light ones, to ensure that as much air is retained in the mixture as possible. DON'T over-mix Over-mixing can make the mixture curdle, which affects the overall bake of the cake. Add milk If your mixture looks too thick, add a drop of milk. This will help to keep both your mixture and the consistency of the cake smooth. A thick, stodgy mix will most likely end up as a thick, stodgy cake! Keep it real When adding flavour, use real ingredients such as vanilla pods and lemon zest wherever possible, as these provide the best flavour. Grease up Always line the tin using greaseproof paper. Using butter can make the cake greasy after it has finished baking. Patience Don't open the oven too soon, no matter how eager you are! The air release will cause the cake to drop. Enjoy making it! If you are relaxed then it always comes across in the end result.

07.01.2022 5 REASONS YOU NEED A RUG IN YOUR HOME! A rug can effortlessly transform any room. Plus, they also offer a range of practical benefits from warming your home, to reducing noise and protecting your floor. Here are our top suggestions to help you find the perfect rug for your room! ... Modern or traditional. For a more traditional look, opt for a Persian or Provincial style rug. Or, if you want to make a bold statement with colour or texture, choose a modern abstract or block-colour rug. Got kids? Wool rugs are beautiful, but they also pile, which may not be great for crawling babies or young children. And for a kids’ room, acrylic heat-set weave rugs generally provide more affordable options that will better withstand wear and tear. Consider the traffic. Consider how much foot traffic your rug is going to be exposed to. High-pile rugs will wear easily and more obviously in a busy room, while low-weave rugs like sisal will withstand heavier and more regular foot traffic. Size matters. When choosing a rug think about the size of your room. Nothing looks worse than a too-small rug in a large room. If you’re unsure, it’s always better to go a little larger as placing furniture on (rather than around) a rug is a style statement in itself.

05.01.2022 The current lockdown provides a great opportunity to get back out there - and its good for the body, mind and soul! Here are our top 5 projects for your garden this month. Plant a veggie patch: Nothing tastes better than home-grown vegetables, especially when you can pick them out straight from your backyard. First, pick a location for your vegetable garden, then determine what vegetables to plant, choose your type of planter, plant your vegetables and watch them grow with... a bit of TLC. Paint rocks: This is a great family-friendly activity you can do with the kids. And the best part? You can do it all outside in your garden ensuring there is no mess! You can paint them all the colours of the rainbow, turn them into insects like ladybugs or snails, or paint them to match the colour scheme of your outdoor area. Make a bird feeder: A DIY bird feeder is a great way to make the birds in your backyard feel at home. You can make a simple bird feeder with a clean empty yoghurt pot, string, scissors, a mixing bowl, lard, grated cheese, peanuts, raisins and bird seed - all items you are likely to have lying around the house! Not only will it satisfy the appetite of your feathered friends, but theyll also give your lawn a pop of colour and life. Plant a fruit tree: August is the best time to plant fruit trees as cherries, apricots, nectarines and apples trees are available now in-store. These varieties grow well in cooler climates like Victorias. But make sure you plant them in a sunny spot and always dig a hole thats one and a half to two times larger than the roots. Add plenty of compost in the hole and surrounds at planting time, and create a small mound at the bottom of the hole. Water well and then place the plant in the hole. Add some light There is nothing better than being able to see your beautiful garden from inside the house. Why not string up some garden lights to bring a sparkle to trees, your porch, archway or shapely shrub.

04.01.2022 GREENING YOUR SPACE: PLANT TRENDS AND TIPS We all love a little greenery around the home! Check out our top tips for making your indoor plants really pop! Hanging plants. Hanging plants are a great way of incorporating greenery into smaller indoor and outdoor spaces. Select plants that are easy to look after, work best for the space where you are displaying them and suit the amount of natural light and moisture available. Opt for plants like geraniums or ferns that are l...arge enough to spill over the basket. Clusters. Why not draw attention to the greenery in a room by creating a plant cluster? Use a minimum of three plants, with contrasting colours, textures and forms and place them in an eye-catching location. Climbers. Take a leaf out of Joost Bakker’s book and opt for climbing plants for walls and fences to cover or soften indoor and outdoor spaces. A laser cut metal screen attached is great for growing plants through and will also create an appealing design feature. Choose a feature plant. Last but not least, an interesting, sculptural looking plant like a Japanese Maple or a Cardboard Palm in an antique urn is a great way to create a design centrepiece in your hall or lounge. Choose an option that works well with your colour scheme and the available space.

01.01.2022 Surviving lockdown 101. Are you running out of ideas to entertain the kids at home during lockdown? It can be a stressful time keeping them amused while youre trying to WFH. So here is a list of different ways to keep your children entertained at home - from gardening to arts and crafts and DIY. 1. Baking: This is a great way to teach your child the basics of baking and is sure to go down a treat. With a few ingredients and simple steps, everyone can get involved in gettin...g food on the table. 2. Play-Doh: This can keep them entertained for hours. Whether they want to make their own dinosaur, car or castle, the possibilities are endless. And if you havent got any Play-Doh, its pretty simple to make your own. All you need are 2 cups of plain flour, 1 cup of salt, 1 tablespoon of oil, half to 1 cup of cold water, and 2 drops of liquid food colouring. Mix the flour and salt then add the water, oil and food colouring. Knead the mixture well, adding a little more flour if the consistency is too wet. 3. Drive-in movie: You dont need to leave the house to go to a drive-in movie, especially when you can make your own. Its quite easy to turn a big cardboard box into their very own car and they can help paint it too. Stick a cushion inside, give them some movie snacks, stick on a movie on and the night is set! 4. Treasure hunt: Treasure hunts are easy to set up, and theyre a great way to get the kids outdoors and keep them occupied for hours on end. Give each child a bag with a list on showing what they have to find - a leaf, a flower, a stick, a stone etc and let them run wild trying to collect them all. 5. Learn a TikTok dance: The social media app that has taken over the world, its easy to understand how you can get lost scrolling for hours. Why not learn the dances with your kids? Its a great way to get in your daily exercise, while all having fun together.
