25.01.2022 A recent property styling completed.

23.01.2022 These photos are from a recent interior decorating project. I worked with my client to enhance the main bedroom. The colours are fresh and inviting and it has a summery feel. The art work above the bed was taken from the living room as I felt it it blended beautifully with the room.

22.01.2022 I love texture and colour and grouping things together to add interest to a room. Books and art also feature as they add personality. When I work with a client I make sure to highlight their personality using the colours they love, their art, books and special pieces they have collected over the years. My aim is to decorate their home so it is unique to them and not just follow a trend. Sometimes it only takes 2 to 3 hours to freshen a home by rearranging things to make the...m flow better. In some cases there is no need to bring in new pieces. Enhancing a client's home is one of the things I do best. When a client tells me "I love my home, you have made it liveable and lovable" I know I am on the right track. Decorating brings me joy as does knowing that I have helped to make a positive difference for my clients..

20.01.2022 An interesting article by the ABC on downsizing. Sometimes it is worth getting outside help, especially if you have minimal family support when children are in high pressure roles, have busy lives or are interstate or overseas It is a time that people need sensitive support as they are leaving many memories and treasured possessions behind as this article mentions. https://www.abc.net.au//downsizing-my-mothers-hou/11404230

19.01.2022 For those interested here is the link for the items my client has for auction at du Plessis on Sunday the 3rd November. They are Chinese pieces bought in Hong Kong in the 1920s but may be older.. Some examples below. https://duplessis.auctionplatform.com.au/AuctionLots.aspx lot numbers 13, 203, 208, 209, 218, 219 and 220.

19.01.2022 The other day I spoke to one of my clients about her experience working with me. I thought I would share it with you as it will give you an example of where I can help you or someone you know. Prior to working with me what were you feeling about the space you were living in? "I was very unsure of just what I needed to do to make the spaces more inviting. I had bought new furniture for the new house but there wasn’t enough the living room looked a bit empty."... Why did you ask me help you? "Because you had made a few suggestions that made sense. You also took me to a vintage furniture shop that had pieces that would really work in my house. You just seemed to know what to get and where to get it. You were also good at placement of existing furniture and paintings." What did you like about the work I did for you? "You took my style on board and worked within it and didn’t try to makeover the rooms you enhanced them. Nor did you push your own ideas although you did encourage purchases when I was a little hesitant but I’m glad you did." And finally what difference did I make and how do you feel now? "I really like the spaces you worked on. My home is stylish and a joy to live in (livable and loveable). Visitors compliment me on the great ambience and graciousness of my home. I still need to get a few pieces and you continue to make excellent suggestions." "

18.01.2022 COPING WIITH CHANGE Recently I was caring for a client’s home while she was in respite care. She is an elderly woman who has been living in the same home for many years. She is comfortable, has her special things in the places she has had them in for years. Her cat is fed in the same place and there is a certain routine which is becoming more important to her as she ages. Familiarity is one of the reasons why it is so hard to leave when you are ready to downsize to a s...Continue reading

18.01.2022 I love how light from a lamp can create atmosphere in a room.

16.01.2022 Enjoyed spending time with my client looking at fabric for her home away from home in Robe.

15.01.2022 I have recently worked on an assignment project managing and styling a home for sale in Port Adelaide. My client, an elderly woman, had to move into a nursing home as she was unable to continue living on her own. My brief was to prepare the home for sale and this included sorting through her possessions and passing her many unique and interesting pieces on to friends, auctioneers, second hand dealers and charity stores. I was mindful that when donating I chose organisation...s that would align with my client's values and interests. So the Anglican Church op shop and the RSPCA,benefitted with the Port River Girl Gudes receiving camping gear and Tandanya many Aboriginal artefacts. As I am very conscious of the effect waste has on the environment I made sure that things were recycled appropriately. This ranged from batteries, x-rays, prescription medicines and glasses, electronic goods, paper, plastics etc. There are great recycling spots around town now so we can start reducing landfill. The home has a beautiful serenity about it, a great place to come home to at the end of the day. It is also fitted with rails and a chair lift for those who need assistance. If you are interested in finding a new home or investment the link is below. The auction is on Saturday the 7th December at 2.30 pm. https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-sa-port+adelai

15.01.2022 I love the way a colour palette including black and soft gold tones enriches a room. The photo is from a recent property styling and the colours with the different textures made a difference to the feel of the room.

TESTIMONIALS I live in the UK & my brother lives interstate, so trying to coordinate mums move into a nursing home and the sale of her home was logistically challenging. Enter Susan Ashby! Susan helped us with everything from sourcing someone to tidy the garden, liaising with the real estate agent and the nursing home, styling mums house so that it appealed to a wide range of buyers, helping mum decide what she wanted to take with her for her move and supporting her after her move. Susans eye for design and her knowledge of what buyers look for was the key ingredient in mum getting above the asking price for her house. But its Susans personal approach, her unflappable nature, passion for her work and genuine care for people is what helped make mums transition so much less stressful. I highly recommend Susan and Ashby Interiors to anyone looking at helping a parent make the move into aged care. Janet OHehir, Director, Org Well Limited, London, UK Susan is observant of finer detail, of colour, shape and texture. She creates a flow around a room, both a theme and a feeling that excites! It is easy to fall in love with her work. 05.01.2022 TO STYLE OR NOT TO STYLE You may have felt the sensation as soon as you strolled up the drive or as you stepped into the home. It could be a room that you walked into that suddenly seemed familiar. You are not sure why but you just knew - this is my new home. Making a home inviting and one in which people can imagine living in is the aim of the property stylist. In doing this, potential buyers will develop a connection with the home which in turn maximises the profit at sal...e or auction time. Property styling has really become popular in the past few years with the aim being to highlight and enhance the positive aspects of the home, while minimising the less appealing areas. Having too much clutter distracts from the home but you also want a personality to shine through and not make it bland and uninviting. Sometimes it is worth bringing in cleaners to give it a special polish, a gardener to ensure the garden is attractive, and someone to finish off the odd jobs that we seem to put off for years. It is funny how we often spruce up the home just before selling and we fall in love with it again and wish we had done it years before. Recently I styled two homes that were empty and needed the heart brought into the space. I think it is important that a home should look lived in not styled, so my aim was to make them come alive. Having texture, complementary colour, plants and furniture with that comfortable, lived in look all brought a certain richness to the home and in turn made a difference to the end result. An appropriately styled home makes a positive impression as soon as people walk in the door. Often Real Estate agents will recommend you have your home styled. Sometimes it is worth having it done before you bring in the agents to view the home, as first impressions can make a difference to their perception of the homes worth. Until next time, Susan. Susan Ashby is the principal of Ashby Interiors specialising in creating heart filled spaces, property styling for sale and providing guidance and support for those downsizing or transitioning to aged care. She loves to be able to use some of your treasured possessions and add pre loved, locally sourced and unique pieces to create a home that is both warm, inviting and stylish. Susan loves to create spaces that you will fall in love with. Copyright Susan Ashby

03.01.2022 Loved helping my client with decorating choices for her sitting room. Sourcing and working with mid century Scandinavian furniture was a treat. My client said that I have made her home liveable and lovable which I felt was the best testimonial as that is what I want to achieve in my decorating.

03.01.2022 I am working on pattern design. Hoping to be able to have a design that can be used for wallpaper or fabric. A small section of one I have been working on.
