18.01.2022 I will be performing Ned Kelly with the Hottest of the Hot on Sunday...Monique DiMattina, Rosie Westbrook, Shannon Bourne and Michelle Lewit...not to mention the brilliant Derek Guille doing narration and a crackin visual by video animator Sean Healy...First and foremost this is a musical concert written to the story of Ned Kelly and these players interpretation of my compositions is absolutely magnificent. It will be worth it to take the trip down the highway to check it out. The Ned Kelly Show is proudly presented in partnership with the Word for Word National Non-Fiction Festival, which will feature a special preview performance on Sunday 17 November at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre. 16.01.2022 Wow check this out...oh, a back story. I put out another instrumental concept album a little while back, it was pretty out there. One reviewer said it didn’t fit any genre and that it had no concept or theme. I spose if you are gonna put out a concept album you should say what the concept isif it isn’t clear like the Ned Kelly and Burke and Wills albums were. Unknowingly the reviewer actually gives the concept, well not so much the concept, but the theme of the record. They ...went on to say, the main difficulty is such clear divisions between each of the 8 tracks, with their disparate styles and instruments, which is correct, but it had to be. Pulse transit was written for a modern dance performance and what got me in about the modern dance shows I was going to was that there didn’t seem to be any rulesI’m sure there were rulesbut I couldn’t see/hear them. It was totally randomvisually and with the sound. I did not know what was going to happen next and I loved that sense of expectation and anticipation. And I wanted to make a record that would do that. Just as the dance pieces would shift dramatically I had to do that with the music. I wanted to keep moving where the listener wasand how they felt. The only anchor was the metronome at 60 on every track, but in different time signatures, holding the music in some subliminal pulse dwellingand that is the foundational concept that the theme was born out of. Soooi’m still looking for a dance company to work with to produce a dance performance piece to this record but until then here is a filmclip with the track Decoke off the Pulse Transit album. 10.01.2022 WHOA...im in a book. so stoked and privileged that pauline bailey wanted me to be a part of Blues Portrait. this photo that is in the book is pretty cool and holds strong memories of some special times and dudes. this was one of the last times that i got to play with chris wilson in the heinous hounds at the cherry bar...and it was taken by steve "pig" morgan who i miss so much from greville records. do yourself a favour, this collection is a great read. well done pauline!

07.01.2022 This is one of my favourite lap steel pieces by Matt Walker. we were jamming outback in his shed one day...i think we were trying to come up with some ideas for another film and i happened upon this groove and matt got his thing going on the lap steel that someone had found at a tip and had given to him! Mick Harvey heard it somewhere along the line, added some of his magic and put the piece of music to this scene (he was doing the music for the film...australian rules). i use to ride around like this, maybe thats another reason i dig it so much...though i never grabbed a handful of maggots out of a kangaroo!!
