21.01.2022 A voice of one calling: In the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. (Isaiah 40: 3 5) Words that ar...e often associated prophetically with John the Baptist, but which challenge us today to consider how each one of us can play a part in our own community, and in our own time, in preparing the way for the Lord to be proclaimed. Do we believe that in Ashfield, in Sydney, in Australia, in 2020, in the middle of the worst crisis faced by our country and world in many generations, the glory of the Lord can and will be revealed here in our midst and that people of our generation will come to know Him? Are we therefore willing to be the mouthpieces through whom God can speak in our day? Will we prepare the way of the Lord and make Him known around us? In the wilderness that is our world, God can use even the least of us to be His witnesses. He promises His spirit to help us and give us the power and strength that we cannot find in ourselves. May we today resolve with His help to rise to the challenge and truly become people in whom and through whom our world will see our God, our Lord and our Saviour. See more

21.01.2022 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Sing praises to the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what He has done. (Psalm 9: 9 11) A wonderful word of reassurance from Gods word today. Oppression can come in many ways and from many directions. It can come from people, from governments, sometimes even from within families..., communities and social groupings where ordinarily we might feel safe and free from the forces of oppression. Sometimes oppression comes from circumstances as we find ourselves seemingly hemmed in and helpless in the face of events over which we have no control. Where is God in all this? The Psalmist reminds us of Gods presence, His strength and His faithfulness to us no matter what may be going on in our lives. He is the one who will never forsake us. His love and care go on and on through everything. Truly He is the one to be praised and worshipped. He is the one whose message of forgiveness and salvation we take to the world. See more

17.01.2022 Lord God, you give us Jesus, you come into the world in the form we understand, you travel with us on the journey from birth to death. Help us to know and trust in Jesus our brother, so that we may enter into his way of obedience and, having passed through the tests of life, join in your feast of joy at the end. Amen. (Bernard Thorogood, in A Treasury of Prayer) What is the Christian life? What does it mean to be a Christian? How does our faith work out and survive... in such testing times as we live in right now? It always seems to come back to this. T the end of the day, being a Christian is about a relationship. Not a set of rules, not a particular set of behaviours but a relationship. A very special relationship at that a relationship with God through His own Son, Jesus Christ all made possible as a consequence of Gods love for us and our response to that love. In that relationship, Jesus walks with us day by day, sharing our every experience, our trials, our sorrows, our joys. Unseen, in human terms, but a presence so real that we could reach out spiritually and touch him, hes that close to us. Are you in that kind of relationship with Jesus? If not, perhaps as we worship together today, you might want to ask him into your life and begin that walk with him. Today is the first day of the rest of your (eternal) life!

16.01.2022 What a beautiful day for a picnic! Thanks to the Chedra’s for sharing their boat.

15.01.2022 Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5: 18b 20) What a contrast! Paul has just been drawing a word picture for his readers on how not to behave, a picture of living in spiritual darkness, following the desires of this world instead of living in the light of the Lord... Jesus Christ. In contrast to the examples he gives of immorality, impurity, obscenity and greed, among others, Paul then portrays the Christian who is going on being filled with Gods Holy Spirit day after day. The consequence and the contrast are a life of joy where the things of God are constantly on a persons lips and where praise to the living God is never far away. An impossible ideal? Just something to be hoped for but never realised? No! With God, it is always possible! Gods Spirit can transform our lives today and make Pauls words a reality for each of us. Darkness or light? The evil of the world or spirit-filled joy and worship? Which will you choose? See more

15.01.2022 Then you will call upon me and come to pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29: 12, 13) God has a message here for all who have turned away from Him. He still cares. He still loves. He still has plans and a place for those who have gone their own way. Yes, even though we so often turn our backs on Him, He will not let us go. One thing though He seeks from us so that He may restore us into a right and perfect relationship with Him. We are to call upon Him and seek Him afresh with ALL our hearts. Not for God the half-hearted, lukewarm, fair weather approach to worship and to His service. He wants us to be all out, wholly committed to His cause and when we seek Him and pray to Him in this way, then we will find Him. Thats His promise!

Un certainty is In the world to come we hope There we will not doubt In the world to come we hope There we will not be uncertain To live with doubt is To be alive in this world Looking for the world to come Looking for the one who is certain We will not find the answers but To find the one Is to live in the world to come

07.01.2022 Ashfield Blessing Box. Take what you need. Give what you can. Read exciting news re our new Blessing Box from ministry leader, Nerida. In short, we need your help! Donate supplies. Join a roster to maintain. Pray. Hi Everyone, The leadership team has approved for our Church to start up the "Ashfield Blessing Box" in our community within the coming week/s. As many of you already know, the idea is to place a pantry cupboard somewhere outside No 19 Holden Street with FREE foo...d and sanitary items, Bibles, books & puzzles to assist anyone in need from our wider community. People from the community will be encouraged to take what they need and give what they can and also support us to help make the Blessing Box sustainable. The Childcare Centre, and the Chinese & Spanish congregations have also been invited to join with us in this community engagement opportunity. As a Church, we want to show Gods love to all people in our community by helping those who are in great need as a result of losing their jobs or suffering in other ways as a result of the Covid-19 situation. Times are tough for a lot people in this season - so the Blessing Box will be available to anyone in desperate need for whatever reason. Please feel free to forward this to anyone you know who may benefit, and encourage anyone who is interested in helping to please email our Administrator, Maria Matherson, to let her know how they can help out. We are planning to start this pantry as soon as possible in May and we will be advertising this ministry in English, Chinese and Spanish throughout the community. 07.01.2022 Our worship today. Thanks to everyone putting the effort into meeting in person safely and for organising the technology for those who join in online.

05.01.2022 This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. (1 John 4: 9 11) God is the source of love for He is love. If it had been left up to us, there would have been no salvation because our inheritance as the children of Adam i...s sin and any move we might have made towards reconciliation with a holy God would have been doomed to failure. But God knew that and in His infinite love and mercy, made the first move and opened the way for sinners like us to come back. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins. Today we can continue to know and to live in His love and enjoy the freedom from guilt and the peace that comes from knowing that we are now new creations free from the condemnation of sin. But we are to remember one thing. Just as God loves us, we are to love others and be walking role models of His love in action. Sometimes thats a tough call and we need His help by the Holy Spirit to make that happen. Let that though be our goal and let us open up ourselves to Him so that He might equip us to demonstrate His wonderful love through our lives. See more

02.01.2022 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise Him, you servants of the LORD, you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to His name for that is pleasant I know that the LORD is great, that our LORD is greater than all godsYour name O LORD, endures forever. (from Psalm 135) It is always goo...d to praise the name of God, to recognise and publicly acknowledge His greatness and all His goodness to us. Particularly with Easter still very much in our thoughts, we continue to give thanks for the gift of His Son, the very personification of His love, His grace and His mercy, and for the mighty power displayed in the raising of Jesus to life from the tomb. Today too, we give thanks to God for new directions and opportunities, even though now born out of the most difficult of circumstances. But there is still an opportunity to move out in faith to build our ministries to individuals and families in our community even though for now we are not able to use our more traditional methods of reaching out and instead seek new ways to engage with those around about us. Amid the uncertainties, we gratefully give thanks for all that has prepared us for this day and look forward to the blessings that lie ahead for the Church and community. See more
