25.01.2022 No job too small, I replaced this old door knob set today for a client. Its been broken a while but as good as new now!
25.01.2022 A nice new cat door that I installed yesterday. It looks like its always been there, fits in nicely. Now the owner just has to convince her cat to use it.
24.01.2022 Currently working with Gotya Covered seat covers at the Brisbane 4x4 Outdoor, Camping and Fishing show this weekend March 16-18, come along for great show special prices!
23.01.2022 A customer wanted something to display her archery medals on so I built this medal rack for her this afternoon
22.01.2022 An hours work and $50 at the hardware shop, just because things are different doesnt mean we cant have some colour in our gardens.
22.01.2022 Out latest job was replacing some rotten timber due to a long term leaking roof. The fibro cement eaves had fallen off due to the rotten timber. The rotten timber was removed and replaced with treated pine, the fibro cement sheets were replaced and the whole lot freshly painted, all in a day.
22.01.2022 New seat covers supplied and installed complete with Ashgrove Handyman logo, big thanks to Josie and the team at www.gotyacovered.com.au
20.01.2022 Its a bit annoying when your timber supplier promises a delivery for a time slot of 10:00 - 12:00 and when you call them at 12:00 they advise it will be on the next truck. Ive been sitting here since 09:30 in case it was somehow early!
20.01.2022 It was a little foggy in Brisbane this morning while I was working on the 13th floor of a building in Newstead. The view over Breakfast Creek and Hamilton towards the airport shows the fog starting to clear.
19.01.2022 Some pics of a small retaining wall that Ashgrove Handyman built in Ferny Hills. Its to stop erosion on the little slope behind a shed. Its actually made from Ekologix Garden Sleepers which are made from over 90% reclaimed timber and recycled plastic.
18.01.2022 Welcome to Ashgrove Handyman. We are a new business set up to help people with their home or office handyman tasks that they either dont have time, the correct tools or the skills to do themselves. With nearly 40 years of handyman experience the scope of work that we cover is quite broad.
18.01.2022 Today I raised a single bed for a customer in their tiny bed sitter apartment to give more room. The bed is securely attached to the wall and the new, longer, leg incorporates a ladder for access. It will look great once the painting is finished. The customer is putting a comfy chair, a small table and a couple of shelves in this valuable space in this tiny apartment.
18.01.2022 A customer had all the asbestos lining taken out from 2 bedrooms and I was tasked to finish off the timber architraves and skirting boards plus paint. The before and after pics are quite spectacular!
18.01.2022 A recent repair that I did after a bobcat damaged the corner of this property in The Gap
17.01.2022 I think Im too old to help this couple with their "Handyman" request
17.01.2022 So, my first largish job is today. Remodelling a timber fence. Replace the old palings with fancy pickets and drop the height about 15 cm. And its raining. It hasnt rained for months!
16.01.2022 There was some spare timber laying around from a recent job, so this afternoon I made an outdoor chair complete with extended arm/leg rests so I can put my feet... up after a hard days handymanning. There may be some sanding done to round off a few sharp edges prior to paint or stain but its pretty comfy! See more
14.01.2022 Bit of a scare today, as I was shaking this piece of roofing iron and the snakes tail suddenly appeared. Turns out it was a rubber snake put there by a previous owner, possibly to stop animals nesting in this cosy gable area of the roof!
13.01.2022 A customer is going to be puppy sitting on the weekend so she asked me to install a fence and gate to keep him in the back yard.
13.01.2022 I replaced 3 of the treads on these stairs for a customer last week and painted them today. I think they came up pretty well
12.01.2022 An hour’s work and $50 at the hardware shop, just because things are different doesn’t mean we can’t have some colour in our gardens.
12.01.2022 A customer had me build a small extension to his fence to kept his dog in the yard. This was the lowest point of the fence and quite easy for the whippet to get over before the extension went on.
11.01.2022 Finished a fence reno today in Ferny Hills. The "during" pic shows the old timber palings and the "after"shows the nice new, freshly painted, colonial top pickets, note also the refurbished gate which the client loves.
11.01.2022 I had to give poor old Santa a hand assembling this trampoline, a long story follows. I was contacted by a customer who was going on a cruise from December 18th to the 24th out into the pacific and not contactable. She wanted me to help Santa by removing her kids old trampoline and assembling a new one for them ready for when they get back and go into the backyard on Christmas morning. So I went around last Thursday and disassembled the old trampoline and packed it up to take... to the dump. Then I started to unbox the new one from its 4 cartons. The springs in one, the mat in another, the safety enclosure in another and a basketball backboard in the last carton. For those of you still reading, I was also wondering where the frame was. I searched under the house and in the garage but no frame. I tried calling her brother as I had his number but got a this number is not connected message. So, what to do? I looked at the cartons and was able to read the suppliers name from the shipping label. Google provided the phone number and after a bit of explaining to their customer service person the frame was on its way. Trampoline assembled Christmas Eve by lunchtime. Happy customer. Happy handyman. Thanks for reading! See more
11.01.2022 Another happy customer after Ashgrove Handyman repaired the corner capping on the outside wall of the rooftop patio in Paddington, Qld. The capping had come away after a recent storm but has been successfully repaired and repainted to the clients relief as she was moving out the next day to start a new adventure elsewhere.
11.01.2022 Well here we are at week 8 just about to commence. Been busy, done a bit of painting, some fence reno, cleaned out a file archive and taken the empty archive boxes to the dump, a few quotes that I hope to come back in the next week or 2, gardening and general Handyman tasks. Not making a fortune but happy in my work, very contented little handyman at the moment
09.01.2022 So the second week of business has ended. It was an interesting week. 13 hours on Tuesday and maybe a further 8 for the rest of the week combined but, as they say in the classics, I no complain. Week 3 already has a couple of good jobs lined up. Number 1 is removing the palings from a timber front fence and replacing with pickets with fancy tops, including painting, and remodelling the front gate that wont open or close properly. Hopefully it will after I fix it. Number 2 is erecting a pergola kit that someone has bought. I didnt know they sold them as kits, so you learn something new. There are a few extras that may happen but those 2 alone should keep me busy for 2 or 3 days.
06.01.2022 Andrew from Ultimate Welding and Fabrication built the new canopy for my Isuzu DMax, Im very happy with the end results.
06.01.2022 I often replace outdoor timber. Pine is ok, but it doesnt last outdoors like hardwood. A customer asked me to replace the handrail on their outside stairs so I used a lovely hardwood Jarrah handrail and while there re-oiled the stairs as well.
05.01.2022 I just finished repairing this little landing at the top of some stairs as a couple of the joists had rotted away from being out in the weather. New hardwood joists and very nice spotted gum decking boards look a treat and dont wobble when you walk on them any more.
05.01.2022 A couple of before and after pics of a little job from today. Janet had an eyesore little area at the end of her tiled floor in her rear yard. A few pavers and some lovely matching pebbles have made the world of difference.
04.01.2022 Some before and after pics of one of Ashgrove Handymans latest jobs. A customer wanted a privacy screen in the back yard as the block is quite steep and the 2.4 metres of fencing didnt reach the level of the back lawn, so when you walked out onto the back patio it felt like there was no fence at all. Nice and private now.
03.01.2022 Recently I built this fence around a clients back yard as the son was getting a dog. I think it looks pretty nice and should keep the new puppy inside the yard.
01.01.2022 Heather wanted a new fence to screen her outdoor patio area. The results will be even better once Heather paints or varnishes it over the weekend.
01.01.2022 For the next 3 weeks Ashgrove Handyman is working 3 days a week filling in for a Maintenance Officer at an aged care hostel. Interesting work environment, quite different to our normal workplaces of peoples homes and offices. So far Ive changed 3 Exit light globes, hung curtains, freed up a sticky door lock, blown leaves off the paths, contacted the complex security monitoring company about an exit door and had lunch.
