25.01.2022 The 2019 Relays saw us once again fielding the most teams of any club with most overall medals for the fourth year in a row and sixth in Golds. Once again, our feed from The Gap and Arana Little As and Ashgrove parkrun proved beneficial and a growing band of young male jumpers including National Heptathlon and High Jumo champion Connor Duggan were to the fore taking full advantage of strong tailwinds with golds in the Under 18 Long and High Junp and bronze in the Under 16 Long Jump. Hope you have enjoyed this bit of nostalgia to get us in the mood for another great relays meet next week.

21.01.2022 A very big thanks to everyone for an incredible team effort with all 36 of our teams st State Relays completing their events with 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronzes our medal haul. It’s amazing that we still ended up with such a great meet despite all of the obstacles along the way with COVID this year. We would very much like to thank all of our athletes (and their coaches) who tried their best in very hot conditions and with distractions like a blocked South-East Freeway curtai...ling warm-ups - that’s regardless of where they finished. Full credit also to Queensland Athletics and all of the other clubs involved for their efforts. It had to be the greatest Shot Put day in the history of the club with 10 of our 18 medals coming in the Shot and Open Silver Medals to the Men’s team of Adrian Keen (3rd individual 12.12m), Ethan Johnson and Darian Keen) as well as the Women’s team of April Laurikaanen (2nd individual - 11.16m), Tiana Morrison and Tyniesha Flanagan-Carr. There was also a very good effort by the Open Women’s 4x400m to finish fifth with juniors Lauren Davidson and Jessica McAskill performing very well with experienced competitors Tiana Morrison and Cara Jardine. Medals went to: Gold Medals Under 20 Men’s Shot Put (Carl Martin, Darian Keen, Ethan Johnson) Under 18 Boys Shot (Carl Martin, Connor Duggan, Clay Enders) Masters Men 30 plus Shot (Adrian Keen, Steve Stangret, John Purcell) Masters Men 40 plus Shot (Craig Preston, Adrian Keen, Corey Luff) Masters Men 60 plus Shot (Gary Morrisby, Phil Hoy, Graham Barralet) Masters Men 30 plus 4x400m (Steve Stangret, Andrew Barralet, Craig Preston, Mark Lepper) Masters Men 30 plus Long Jump (Ken Hastie, Steve Stangret, Adrian Keen) Silver Medsls Men’s Open Shot (Adrian Keen, Darian Keen, Ethan Johnson) Women’s Open Shot (April Laurikaanen, Tiana Morrison, Tyniesha Flanagan-Carr) Under 20 Boys Long Jump (Carl Martin, Darian Keen, Connor Duggan) Under 16 Boys Shot (Lee Martin, Jai Jarro, Callan Jensen) Masters Men 30 plus 4x100m (Steve Stangret, Craig Preston, Andrew Barralet, Brendan Purcell) Bronze Medals Open Women’s Long Jump (Tiana Morrison, Cara Jardine, Tyniesha Flanagan-Carr) Under 18 Girls Shot (April Laurikaanen, Lauren Davidson, Grace Dickson) Under 14 Girls Shot (Annika Jensen, Chloe Griffin,Izzy Caminiti) Women’s 40 plus 4x400m (Jo Cootes, Liz Allen, Tash Shourbaji, Rebekah Bruhwiller) Men’s 50 plus 3x1k (Peter Lamont, Tony Usher, Mark Lepper)

20.01.2022 Next Sunday it’s the final Flying Four of a rather strange year so come along to Ashgrove Sports Ground, Yoku Rd for our usual 8am start. We will present trophies for the past year and will have our usual ribbons for handicap winners in the Under 10 1k, Under 14 2k and Open 4k. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
20.01.2022 More great running from Jo Preston and John White who are our Virtual Flying Four Handicap winners for November and each receive a bottle of wine. A big thanks to everyone who took part.
20.01.2022 This Saturday is the Jai Taurima Shield incorporating the 1500m Classic at QE2. Entries close at the Qld Athletics website at midday on Thursday. https://www.revolutionise.com.au/qldathletics/events/54942/
19.01.2022 Also at the 2015 Relays our efforts in the sprints started to show dramatic improvement. Head sprints coach Marty Lane led off the Masters 4x100m establishing a huge lead maintained well by Adrian Keen and Steve Stangret but the tactics of wearing Vibrams backfired severely for anchor runner Brendan Purcell who was powering down over the last 50 metres with a hamstring issue but scrambled over the line just in front on his way to the First Aid tent.
18.01.2022 Vale Ron Lambert Folks one of our key personalities from the early days of the club Ron Lamber passed away recently. Life Member Graham Barralet has written a tribute piece here:... http://ashgroverangers.org/ron-lambert/ We offer our sincere condolences and best wishes to Ron’s family and friends.
17.01.2022 It might not have been as hilly as Maleny but the heat provided an extra challenge at today’s State Cross Country at Limestone Park, Ipswich. Well done to Tim Vincent (2nd), Harry Bray (3rd) and Lynda Bateson (3rd) who all got into the medals.
17.01.2022 At the 2018 Relays we fielded the largest contingent of any club in modern times with a whopping 68 teams making it to the line which once again gave us the most medals and fourth in Golds. The new Open 4x400m Mixed Relay event proved timely for us with Cara Jardine fresh from her silver medal in the 4x400m at World Juniors teaming with Tiana Morrison, Cam Pfeffer and Dean di Mauro to take the Gold Medal.
17.01.2022 Well done to all our virtual Flying Four participants. Perhaps they were inspired by the London Marathon. The girls 1km results were: Eliza Preston 4:41... 13.01.2022 Didn’t think it was going to happen in time but the new bikeway widening is ready for an Ashgrove parkrun re-start on Saturday at 7am at Ashgrove Sports Ground so it’s going to be a bumper day all round. Look forward to catching up with all the parkrun regulars once again.
12.01.2022 There were some very gutsy efforts by our Masters Women’s relay teams so a big thanks to Liz, Rebekah, Tash and Jo with bronze in the 4x400m Masters 40 plus and 4th in the 3x1k Masters 40 plus.

09.01.2022 Buoyed by an encouraging fourth placing and most medals overall at the 2016 Relays, the 2017 team pulled off maybe the biggest upset in the history of Queensland Track and Field by winning the overall meet. Our Under 14 Field event Boys scooped four Golds and Under 20 Track Girls took three Golds and a narrow Silver to help us edge over the line ahead of the traditional powerhouse track and field clubs. Overall depth in the throws and depth in the Masters Women’s events also greatly helped our cause.
09.01.2022 Folks another year is upon us for membership renewal starting 1st October. You can renew now by going to Queensland Athletics website and putting Ashgrove Rangers as the club. Because of the uncertainty of Covid, there is only a Base Membership option which means it’s cheap up front but you will pay a lot more every time you compete in track and field.

06.01.2022 Congratulations to Faye Dunkerley the 2018 champion who once again took out the Club Handicap Trophy at the Flying Four this morning. Harry Cootes took the Under 14 2k trophy. Craig and Jo Preston took bottles of wine as first male and female overall in the September Handicap.... PBs in the hurdles went to Lauren Davidson (400) and Callan Jensen (200) as well as Tim Vincent 3.49 in the 1500m. There were also very good efforts backing up across multiple events by Tiana Morrison (100, Javelin, Long Jump) and Katie Bray (1500m walk, 1500m).
03.01.2022 Folks Queensland Athletics have a new scoring system based on age groups which now applies to the State Relays. According to results now on the QA website, these were our results: Masters - 2nd Opens - 5th... Under 20 - 2nd Under 18 - 2nd Under 16 - 8th Under 14 - 7th Although they haven’t shown an overall total, it looks like the finishing order was 1. QUT 2. Ipswich 3. UQ 4. Ashgrove Rangers. These are very pleasing results for such a high profile event so thanks once again everyone for such a huge team effort and congratulations to QUT, Ipswich and UQ.
