Social distancing - please remain 1.5m apart from others at all times 2. Sanitise your hands on entry and exit - we have lots available for you to use, so sanitise away! 3. Please arrive on time for your appointments (yes this also means not early!) as this helps us to manage numbers and ensure social distancing ... 4. One owner per pet We know these are tough times for many people and we aim to make your visit as safe as possible so that we can continue to keep helping you and your pets.

25.01.2022 We know we're feeling the COVID weight (thanks Netflix and takeaway!) but many of our pets are too! Although a kilo or two here and there doesn't seem like much for us, it can mean a lot for our furry friends! Weight problems are common in dogs and cats and can be successfully managed by a combination of dietary change and exercise. There are many factors that contribute to pets becoming overweight such as age, breed and medical problems (and maybe a few extra treats here an...d there ;) ). Overweight pets live shorter lives than healthy weight pets, and pets who are just a few kilos overweight as little as 20% have an increased risk of developing serious diseases such as diabetes, osteoarthritis, and cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. All pets have an ideal weight for their size and breed. Your veterinary healthcare team will be able to tell you what this is, and show you how to check that your pet is maintaining a healthy weight.

Did you know that both cats and dogs can get diabetes too? Typical signs of diabetes in pets can include: Increased thirst More frequent urination ... 24.01.2022 Check out this cute face! This little baby brushtail came in to our clinic after mum was hit by a car. She was found in mum's pouch nice and healthy. After a good check over with the vets, she went off to one of our amazing wildlife carers to be looked after until she can be released back to her natural habitat. If you come across injured wildlife, please give RSPCA or your nearest vet a call for advice on what to do. And remember, always check the pouch for a baby.

24.01.2022 Star patient Lachie has been visiting us weekly for splint and bandage changes for a fractured foot. Dr Cheryl and Nurse Jacqui channeled their inner artists had a little bit too much fun with this one! 24.01.2022 HYDROBATH SERVICES SUSPENDED Unfortunately, in aid of limiting the amount of foot traffic within and outside the clinic in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, we have decided to suspend our weekend hydrobath service until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience but believe this is a necessary step to reduce the risk and help keep our clients and staff safe during these trying times.

23.01.2022 Happily ever after... Meet Astro and Stormi, two greyhound rescues from Animals in Need Brisbane. Astro, formerly Danny, used to visit the clinic with his big sister Stormi twice a week to have his bandages changed after falling off the back of a ute. Such a brave boy, Astro never once complained and was a star patient throughout the entire rehabilitative process. Although he had a bit of a rough start, both Astro and Stormi have found a loving home together and, as you can see, are both very happy and very spoilt! Their wonderful new mum sent us this photo this morning and we couldn't not share. This is just one of the many reasons why we love what we do!

21.01.2022 Contactless consultations... We know that leaving the care of your pets in the hands of someone else can be difficult, particularly when you can't be there for them. While we don't enjoy it either, to ensure your safety as well as ours it is a necessary preventative measure we have taken. Rest assured that the consultation certainly isn't "contactless" for your pet - as evidenced by the positively glowing Rocky. They get lots of love from the nurses and vets alike and you ca...n often find us sitting on the floor, cuddling them, playing with them and presenting our new friends to the other staff to meet (particularly the puppies and kittens)! Don't worry, they also get PLENTY of treats. We've also found that it has been a great opportunity for socialisation. So while in many aspects it is different and hard, we strive to make the visit as enjoyable, safe and stress free as possible for both you and your furry friend.

18.01.2022 Puppy mayhem! With everyone at home more often, many families have opened their hearts to another little set of four paws. Last Saturday, we were swamped with puppy vaccinations. Needless to say, our nurses had the best time cuddling your babies while they were in with us! Fingers crossed we get to see lots of puppies and kittens again tomorrow. 17.01.2022 We know the information surrounding COVID-19, coronaviruses and your pet can be a bit overwhelming and confusing. There are many strains of coronavirus, some of which affect our pets. COVID-19 however is a new strain affecting humans. There is currently no evidence that supports COVID-19 being transmissable from pets to humans. 16.01.2022 Our weekend hours are changing! In light of the current economic climate, we have decided to alter our business hours. As of this weekend, we will no longer be open on Sundays. To compensate for this, we have added extra consultation appointments on a Saturday afternoon. Unlike Sundays, there is no surcharge for consultations on a Saturday. 15.01.2022 Best friend, wildlife warrior and radio host... Dodge was certainly one of the most special patients (although they're all very special) we have had the pleasure of knowing and we just wanted to share some of her antics with you. Her adventures were definitely amazing and the time she spent looking after wildlife with her family has left them with the most extraordinary of bonds. A born fighter, she surprised everyone with how long she held on for. She will be sorely missed here at Ashgrove but we were so fortunate to be part of her wonderful life! We hope you enjoy seeing these photos as much as we did! And yes, that is Bob Irwin! Thank you to Dodge's family for providing the photos to post.

14.01.2022 On the ninth day of Christmas my cheeky pup gave to me, a chocolate toxicity! Along with the silly season comes lots of yummy foods and often our dogs and cats just want to join in on the fun. Unfortunately for them, although yummy, a lot of the things we eat at Christmas can make them very sick, even in small quantities. Although most of us know chocolate is bad, there are a few other things to watch out for this Christmas: Fruit cake Sultanas, grapes, raisins ... Fatty foods such as ham Macadamia nuts Onions and garlic Alcohol Wrappers and packaging If you think your pet has ingested any of these, please give us a call on 3366 6666 or alternatively your nearest emergency centre immediately for veterinary advice on what to do. 12.01.2022 Meet Wilbur! This little cutie came in with his sister for her check up on Saturday because sometimes he gets scared at the vet. We gave him lots of treats and cuddles and popped him on the scales just to get used to being here. Eventually he warmed up and even gave us a smile and a wave! 11.01.2022 Going to the vet is really tiring guys... Little Mo fell asleep in nurse Rochelle's arms today while he was waiting for his desexing procedure. We just love puppy cuddles!

10.01.2022 Peppers weather forecast? Too cold for anything other than napping in her jim jams and curling up on the couch! In the colder months, just like people, your furry friends arthritis tends to flare up more. This can make them stiffer and less likely to join in on family activities. It may also make it harder for them to get up and down, use the stairs and get on and off furniture (we know you spoil them!). If youre worried your pet has arthritis or is slowing down, please book in with one of our friendly veterinarians to work out a tailored treatment plan to get your pet back to their usual selves! Keep an eye out next week for some tips to help manage your pets arthritis at home.

10.01.2022 Spring is here but so are the ticks! While all year round is tick season here in SEQ, we see a significant spike in cases at this time of year throughout the warmer months. Deadly to both dogs and cats, the best treatment for paralysis ticks is always prevention but it is always best to know what to look out for in your pet so you can seek help. Signs and symptoms of tick paralysis include: ... - Lethargy - Vomiting - Wobbliness (particularly in the hind legs) - Change in bark/meow - Difficulty blinking (if tick has attached around the head) - Difficulty breathing / panting - Paralysis in advanced cases If your pet is showing any of these symptoms or if you find a tick on your pet, call or visit us or your nearest emergency clinic immediately. If you have found a tick and removed it, please bring it with you so we can identify the tick. 07.01.2022 Saturday Puppy Love Zuri star Rodesian Ridgeback patient came in for his puppy vaccinations today and we absolutely fell in love. Check out the size of those feet and those gorgeous puppy eyes. Always remember that our larger breed puppies, like Zuri, require a specialised large breed puppy diet to help their joints and ensure a good weight as they are growing so fast! We also recommend keeping them on the large breed puppy diet for up to a year and a half old.

Dogs are particularly more susceptible to separation anxiety, although cats can experience this too. Signs of separation anxiety may include: ... - Barking and vocalisation, particularly when you are leaving or not home - Inappropriate toileting - Destructive behaviour - Hyperexcitement when returning home So what can we do to help our pets become comfortable when we can't be at home? There are many different things we can do to help from behaviour training, exercising before leaving home and a variety of supplements such as Zylkene and Adaptil Pheromone. It is with great excitement that we can announce that hydrobathing will be up and running again from this Saturday 7th November! Our hydrobath hours are: Saturday - 8.30-12.30 Sunday - CLOSED ... Please note that this a first in best dressed service and there are no appointments available. Arrive by 12pm at the latest is required to ensure enough time to bath your pet. Cost is $15 for one dog, or $28 for two. COVID-19 protocols are still in place for your safety.
