22.01.2022 In light of the current circumstances, it is important if we are to continue to work as an industry that we all do our best to help the cause. A recent update from the Australian Wool Exchange, please all wool staff, shearers and farmers read the following info. We are all a part of this.

13.01.2022 Sometimes you just miss a few in the muster... This is two years growth on the left and 12 months on the right. There’s a few reasons why it is important to ensure your sheep are shorn every year. The animals welfare is number one reason. When fleeces are to big or overgrown it can be up to 10 extra KGs that the sheep has to lug around. ... The another reason is even though it’s longer it isn’t actually worth anymore money. The optimum length to shear is between 60-80mm. Hope you all had a great Monday!!
13.01.2022 Before and Afters. Nothing like leaving a shed knowing all the wool is pressed ready for sale. Hope you are all enjoying your Friday ... - Holly the Woolclasser.
13.01.2022 LICE EFFECTED WOOL. Lice can cost commercial wool growers huge $$$ in profit. The wool becomes matted, yellow and discoloured, dreadlock like appearance on the outside and a smell like no other. It also makes the sheep harder to shear. It’s super important for all woolgrowers no matter whether, you have 1 sheep or 1000 to monitor lice, ensuring they are clear and treated when needed.
11.01.2022 School holidays time
09.01.2022 The Coronavirus doesn’t effect sheep so we are all good here at Ash Hooper Shearing! Still full swing here. If you are looking for a shearing team in the Bendigo area give us a call. Clean, reliable and fun team.
09.01.2022 Shearing schools are a great way to have a go at shearing and get started on the right track. Get in contact with Glenn (details on photo) if you are keen to give it a go.
09.01.2022 As always our trainers going above and beyond to help out where they can. These are strange times and it is going to take some time and practice for us to get used to what will hopefully be short term measures. Shearers and shedhands give this a watch. We are in this together.

03.01.2022 Shearing Composite Ewes @ Toolleen. Composite ewes are in definition a ‘breed’ of their own. They are created by crossbreeding and can be a combination of many matchs however they are selected for their fertility, birthing ease and ability to produce a fat lamb on a shorter time frame than perhaps normal ewes. Wool mostly is a by product, however it is still wool and still valuable. ... These type of sheep are not all that common here in Central Vic but there are plenty of brilliant ewes around.
02.01.2022 The wool industry offers so many opportunities for so many different people. Have you thought about giving the wool industry a go??
01.01.2022 There’s many different shearing shed designs. All of which work well in some ways and not so well in others. And that’s ok. Raised Boards are a ‘newer’ design in the industry. A raised board means that the shearers and pens of sheep are up higher, meaning the wool work is done at torso level. This makes it less bending for wool staff and gives a good visual from the wool room of what’s happening. Some love a raised board, some don’t, it’s all up to the style you like to work in.
