22.01.2022 Dogs often feel more comfortable around infants when they are given time and space to observe and experience them without direct contact. As parents, we may hav...e visions of our dogs and children frolicking and being the best of friends. Sometimes, that's absolutely possible! Yet, it's easy to jump to the end goal while forgetting the reality that relationships take time and effort to build. Don't rush the relationship with your dogs and children. Build bonds with safe inclusion and parent guided activities that nurture trust, comfort, and predictability together over time. "Dog and baby on the scene, parent in between." See more
16.01.2022 Success Stations in the Wild: Real life. Real homes. Real families. Real solutions. Crates can be a safe haven for dogs from the whirlwind of active, exploring... little people. Dogs who are conditioned to love their crates experience security in their own "bedroom". Placing crates in strategic areas where children can not approach is an important factor in helping dogs remain calm and content when crated. If you have the space, putting a kennel on each floor of your home can create convenient success stations during different times of the day or when emergencies arise. They also don't have to be an eyesore in a main space. Crates are available in all types of varieties to match home decor. Show us your crate success station in the comments! See more

14.01.2022 Start right now, not tomorrow. If you have training and behaviour dreams for your dog, then I encourage you to do one small thing now. Even one small change now will have impacts in your future with your dog. ... Honestly, it is the little things you achieve today that will set you up for future success. Think small, in the moment, right now. Find something your dog has chosen to do, be grateful for that, reinforce it. Success is not a future dream. Success can be right now, should you choose to find it. #mindfuldogs #startnownottomorrow

10.01.2022 Car training tips! Travelling in the car can be an exciting time for dogs, but can be really dangerous for us humans trying to drive. We need to make sure our dogs are calm and still in the car, which can be hard to do especially if our dogs are excited about the destination! Calm dogs are much more pleasant to have in the back seat, versus a bouncy, barky and fidgety dog! Plus, they are much less distracting to the driver.... Here are some tips... Practice sits and lay downs in the car while parked up. Invest in car safety harnesses and restraints. Sometimes a walking harness is not suitable for potential impacts. Be sure to do your research. Invest in a barrier or hammock system. Prepare some long lasting chews or stuff some Kongs to keep your dog busy laying down on enrichment and not bouncing around the cabin. Practice training in the car when not driving. Or ask someone to help you. Contact a qualified dog trainer to get training advice specific to your individual needs. Happy training! x

06.01.2022 Everything you do with your dog is important. The relationship you build with your dog is the most important focus in all of my dog training advice. The first moment you meet them, you see them as a unique individual. You have fallen in love with them. The exciting part is you then begin to realise is everyday you spend time with them, your love for them grows. It begins to blossom, like a rare rose. ... Like plants, to help them grow and bloom at their best, dogs need a routinely vitamin and nutrient boost. Forget dietary supplements, although nutrition and health is greatly important, I want you to nourish your dogs emotional health. Fill them with love. Give them your patience. Know that they have their own varying individual needs. Know that they, too, experience anxiety, stress and fear, and protect them from that as best you can. Show them your empathy. Avoid forcing them into situations where they cannot cope. And if they get a little stressed at something that you consider especially normal, remember that they have a completely different perspective on life than we do. We may never understand what goes on in their minds, but at least we can try and put ourselves in their shoes. They truly are amazing beings. We are so lucky to be able to exist in this life alongside such a remarkable, sensitive and innocent animal. Dogs need us. We are their guides and security in this world. We need dogs. They empower us to make conscious and compassionate decisions. Dogs make us better human beings. Now it's time we return the favour. A world for dogs filled with kindness and conscious actions.
06.01.2022 Have your say about City of Cockburn dog parks!
05.01.2022 Training is about learning new things!! Many people focus on the behaviours they wish their dog didn't do. Heck, even I do sometimes!! What we need to ask ourselves instead is "what would I rather they did instead?" Your answers to that question forms the base for the training you need to do with your dog. For instance, instead of your dog jumping to greet your visitors, you can train them to sit on their mat, or even bring your guests a toy! ... Instead of sitting on the couch for comfort, buy your furry child a new super comfy bed set up, and train them to spend more time there. What you focus on will grow. Focus on teaching your dog preferred behaviours, and they will become ever so fluent at being a "good dog!". #isoperthdogs #perthpuppersiniso
05.01.2022 What can you do today to behave better for your dog? Recently I have undertaken an enormous reality check. And I'm sure, in these trying times, you may have, too. We all have our struggles. We are all alone, but standing emotionally beaten together.... My main challenge lately is my mental health. Now, without preaching the importance of our own mental health, it is time we chatted about our own behaviour choices in response to our emotions that may not be serving us well. Often we seek help for our dog's behavioural patterns expecting to identify a problem with the way we do things for our dogs. And although this is a factor, I want you to identify the new behaviour choices you can make for yourself. And in turn, to help your dog. We, as owners, are a huge influence on our dog's behaviour. And often without knowing. Yet, with such an intelligent brain and body, we rarely look within when it comes to our own behaviour choices. This past pandemic, I have chosen many new behaviours over others I consider detrimental to my mental health. I have chosen to take six deep breaths instead of bursting into anger. Accepting that what I just experienced was humiliating and scary. I have chosen to pause, rest, and relax on my day bed, instead of choosing to pace and frantically clean my house. Accepting that I am a human, and mess happens.l, and rest will help me in the future. And mainly, I have chosen to be compassionate, understanding and empathetic. Instead of taking offence, yelling, or asking "why me?". Life happens. And our life and behavioural responses to life events has a massive effect on our mental health. We as humans have the power and the ability to control our decisions to responding to events. Choose kind. Choose compassion. Choose breathing. Choose soft and slow. Choose relaxation and rest. And you will find your dog will begin to notice this, your behaviour choices. We have more influence on our dogs emotions than we truly know. Be kind to yourself, so you have kindness to give to your dog.
03.01.2022 I will never judge you for your choices. If you commit to hiring me as your dog trainer, I will commit to helping you regardless of your past choices. That is in fact, how we learn to become better. There has been a lot of talk lately online from dog rescues and dog owners, and alike, that rescuing a dog is a "preferred" way to find your new family member, and that buying from a breeder or online is far less superior, and in fact "frowned upon". That you are somehow less of a...Continue reading
